Transferring to McGill

Hello!

I currently go to a college in the United States, and need to get away for financial reasons. I saw on the site that McGill has minimums for the GPAs of prospective students.

My major would be arts, which has a 3.3-3.5 minimum, and my GPA should be around 3.4 (really sharp upward trend). I’m gonna apply for junior year if that’s relevant, and my SAT is 2050. I also go to a school in the United States that ranks a little higher than McGill does, which could help, hopefully.

Do I have much of a chance, or is that too close to the threshold to really count on?

I guess to elaborate what I’m especially curious about is how much the GPA thing matters. When they ask for 3.3-3.5, do they mean that’s like a reasonable score to apply with, or are they saying that’s literally the bare minimum for not getting rejected from the school?

I am also applying! I really don’t know how to chance, but I think those are the bare minimum requirements.

@girldebord McGill publishes minimum requirements.

hey there! I’m also trying to transfer to McGill from a university in the UK
I applied to Arts and to Sciences with an (approximate conversion) GPA of 3.7
I’m on further review required still :frowning: Anyone else heard back?

@dn1302 I also applied for Fall 2018 transfer admissions. My status is currently ‘further review required’ after they requested my winter grades (my school is on the quarter system)

I applied for fall 2018 transfer to arts from a US university with a 3.8 gpa, status is still ready for review. Does anyone know when they might start actually reviewing the application?

Mine says reviewed, and decision pending. The website says that decisions should be released for us (transfers that didn’t go to a college in Canada) up to mid June.

I just heard back. I was admitted.

Hi jerrythemoose, can I ask what your GPA is please? Thanks!

If you are not sure about getting into McGill, you also might want to consider applying to Concordia. It is the other English language university in Montreal, is just down the street from McGill, and they have some form of cross-registration. Concordia is a very good school, but will be a little bit easier to get into and a bit less expensive for international students.

My impression is that McGill is pretty sharp on the GPA cutoffs, but I am not sure whether they will just consider your most recent year. If you have a strong uptrend that might help you. I would check with admissions at McGill.

@eatyoveggies Hi! 3.9 with honors. I just randomly checked the website today and my decision was posted. I am an international student that went to an U.S community college if that helps.

My app still says ready for review. I called service point a week ago and a $10 conversation (mostly on hold) later, they apparently “flagged” the application since we were supposed to hear by early June according to the website. Kind of annoyed because since they’ve waited so long it’s unlikely I’d be able to attend regardless now.

Hi @jerrythemoose did McGill ask you to submit your high school transcript?

@poorubcstudent No, they told me they only needed a transcript from my college since I have already graduated high school.
