Transferring to Michigan State from CC?

Hello,

I'm currently attending Lansing Community College for two semesters, having done poorly while still a high school student. My low performance was due mostly to laziness - when I did my homework and put in even marginal effort, I could "ace" just about any test or quiz. However, I often preferred video games and sleeping late to school, and wound up with a cumulative high school GPA of 2.86. While I was invited into Michigan State University's early-early acceptance program on account of my ACT scores, my application was quickly rejected on grounds of academic inconsistency (I failed almost all of my classes one trimester and got all A's the next).

My goal is to get into Michigan State University for Fall Semester 2012. I plan on majoring in Physics, having had very pleasurable experiences with the subject in high school.

I'm unsure of how to proceed with making myself look like a "safe bet applicant". As I won't have 28 transferable credits by the time I apply for transfer in February of 2012, my high school transcripts still must be forwarded to MSU. Should I fail to garner admittance in Fall, I'll re-apply after Spring 2012 is over.

Here's my academic and extracurricular information, as of now:

Academic:

= High School GPA: 2.86 (graduated in 2011)
= ACT Composite: 28
---> 35 Reading, 33 English, 19 Math, can't remember science
---> ---> Should I retake the ACT? I taught myself Calculus and blew away Physics (which was basically AP). My math score offset my entire composite, and the only reason that the former score was so low is because I never went to class in high school.

= Taking 15 credits this semester at community college, 11 of which are transferable. I'm forwarding AP English and Government scores to LCC, which give me an additional 8 credits, all of which will be accepted by MSU. I currently have a 4.0 in all of my classes, and I honestly can't see that changing. I'm not in the least bit challenged by any material in any of my courses.

Extracurricular:

= Ice dancing/figure skating (2 years; 2009 - present)
= Fencing (5 years; 2006 - present)
= Aikido (2009 - 2010)
= Wrestling (9 years; 1999 - 2009)

= Emergency Department Volunteer (2 years; 2009 - present; several hundred hours at least; could easily obtain highly favorable recommendations from nurses and/or doctors)

= Congressional campaign - county coordinator/supervisor (May 2010 - June 2010; candidate dropped out of race)

= Volunteer figure skating instructor (2 years; 2009 - 2011)

= Michigan State University - Center for Inquiry (2011 - present)
= Michigan State University - political RSO (2009 - 2011)
= Michigan State University - Ballroom Club (2010)

Work:

= Jimmy John's - delivery driver (October 2011 - present)
= McDonald's - crew member (May 2011 - October 2011)

I know a professor at Michigan State University who said she'd be willing to circulate a copy of my resume within the Departments of Neuroscience, Physics and Astronomy, and Biology, if I wanted to try to get a volunteer or paid position in a research laboratory on campus.

Is there anything else I can do to make myself look better, come application time in February? I don't really like my community college, and would like to take a certain math class at State to get into calculus sooner than later (because of my low ACT score in Math, I'm having to take a ridiculously easy math class; I've done Calculus and loved it. I know I can handle at least the first few years' worth of classes for a Physics major!).

I'll be the first one to admit that I screwed up big-time in high school. I'm not a genius or anything, but I know I could have easily done way better than I did.

On a sidenote, I did get relatively good grades my senior year (one "C" in my last trimester. I got distracted by a girl I really liked from MSU, which is a mistake I'm never going to make again. I can't afford to mess up any more!).

Sorry for writing so much. I have a tendency to ramble, and typically try to pack as much information in as possible in my postings.
