Transferring to Michigan

I got Waitlisted at UM and am going to Michigan State this year.

However, ideally I would like to transfer to Michigan (Ross).

My HS Stats are a 3.6 GPA, 1860 SAT (1300 M+V), good ECs.

What type of GPA do I need? I'm in-state. Should I try and transfer after one year or two?

So, do I have a shot?

i think u have a great shot, keep your college grades up. Remember you are going to be competing with kids from all over the nation with a 3.5 + but your instate so your in good shape!

you have to apply after one-year, the 2year bba no longer exists after fall 06

Thanks, that info is news to me. Does anyone know the courses that I am required to take at another school freshman year for me to be eligible for sophomore admission? I've looked a bit online, but haven't really found anything.

http://www.lsa.umich.edu/saa/advisemeweekly/pdf/MichiganStateUniv.pdf

You wanna check that to make sure whatever classes you take at State will transfer over to Michigan. I personally don't consider this list to be complete, because I'm sure you can get classes not listed to transfer over if you talk with an advisor. But if something's on the list, you're pretty much guaranteed it'll transfer.

There's no real required classes for transferring, just make sure that you do well in whatever you're taking and you should be fine.

Are the credits the same if I plan on transferring to Ross and to LSA?

Thanks for the list, I am just making sure it's what I need when i'm planning my classes.

Update: I heard that Ross only takes about 15-20 kids that aren't already in the university as transfers.

If this is true, and if it's a 3-year program (meaning I would have to apply as a transfer during my freshman year at State), do I have little to no shot?

I know how hard it is to get into the school once you're at UM (you need like a 3.7+), so wouldn't I need to pull off a near 4.0 for any chance?

I can't really do the "apply to LS&A as an Econ major, then transfer to Ross" route if it's a 3-year program, as I wouldn't have the time. However, could I transfer to the university for the Spring semester, and apply then?

Would that be a good plan, to be a spring transfer? But then the problem there is I don't know if i'd get in, since I just got waitlisted and I would be sending them the same application basically.

Argh! I don't know what to do!

Pihiplyr, apply to Ross in the winter. I don't think Michigan accepts transfers in the fall anyway, but even if it did, the applicants would still have t show some grades at the university level, and you'll have none to show in the fall.

Even if you don't get into Ross as a transfer, Michigan may accept you into the college of LSA as a Sophomore, expect you to take 1 year at LSA and then, allow the transfer into Ross if your grades are high enough. As such, it may take you an extra semester or two to graduate, but it can be done.

Thanks, I didn't know you could apply to 2 schools and indicate a second choice major. Would an Econ degree be similar in job prospects to a Ross degree?

You won't really be applying to two schools, but if Ross turns you down, LSA could accept you. As for Econ professional placement, it is certainly excellent, but not as amazing as Ross. The same companies recruit Econ majors...only not in so great a number.
