Transferring to Middlebury! Spring 2012

Hey guys!

I am a international student currently studying at Saint Louis University. However, my scholarship there is not good enough for my economic situation, so I applied to Middlebury College as a transfer student!
After seeing the transfer acceptance rates I thought I was not going to be accepted there; however, I got in! I am really excited! But I have not heard anything about financial aid yet.
The problem is that I love SLU. People here is great, the campus is wonderful, and everybody is really nice here!
So, I wanted you to tell me why should I choose Middlebury over SLU and if anybody know when will I get my financial info!

Thanks! :)

As for financial aid, Middlebury is need aware for transfer students, but once accepted, Middlebury meets the full demonstrated need of those it accepts…so just be patient and you should be fine. Ask the admissions office when the FA notification will come. As for why go to Middlebury, well…you applied for transfer so you must know something about the place! Others will chime in I am sure with specifics.

Thank you very much! I can tell you I did a lot of research before applying; however, as an international student I have not been able to visit or anything, consequently, all my info come from what I have read. So, if anybody wants to tell their experience, or what they think about Middlebur College would be awesome! :)

I actually had a similar question. I attended a large, top 20 ivy league for a year and a half, but it wasn’t a good fit. I ended up taking a leave of absence, and decided to transfer, so I’ve also taken a year off (I was young for my original year, 2013, though so it’s not really awkward).

I was pretty sure I had no shot at Middlebury, and had to commit somewhere else before Middlebury even sent their decision. I was shocked that I got in (my stats are fine, I had a 3.7 gpa in college, and a 2220 on the SATs, though I have some pretty valid life experience, having taken time off) but the transfer advisor I worked with said that Middlebury very rarely accepted anyone, and as a winter applicant my chances were even slimmer. Basically, I’m really torn as to whether I should try to get money back from the school I’ve committed to (also an excellent, though larger institution) and head to VT, or stick with a more practical choice. Academically both are excellent, and were tied in my top three choices, so my concern is more the social scene at the two. Does anyone have any input as to whether Middlebury is as elitist as some people say, or how the geographic isolation of the campus affects student life? This sounds stupid, but I’m nervous about making friends and wondering how hard it is to transition into the Middlebury social scene?

As someone who has spent time at both Middlebury and Cornell, I can tell you that you won’t find Middlebury at all elitist. In fact, you’ll find the people there very open and welcoming.
