Thanks!!!

ND is actually a very very transfer friendly school, and it doesn't hurt that Fr. Jenkins is a transfer himself :). If you take the right classes, transferring to ND really isn't all that hard, you just need a 3.6+ GPA (used to be a 3.5 but it is getting more selective) and hopefully a good reason for wanting to transfer to ND, which I can help you with.

Check out my website (though you probably have already) at www.nd.edu/~mnadorff/transfer. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions!

BTW, I am a fellow HOBYite :). I know it is easy to hate ND, hell I did it for a year, but I am glad you are already considering transferring (I did at this stage as well). All I can say is that ND is OUTSTANDING (HOBY joke) and it definitely was worth it for me, even though transferring can be difficult.

thanks,
i'm just worried that i'll have trouble adjusting at ND after all its students have already formed friendship groups. I'm a little more on the quiet side as well. what do you think?

I am frankly an introvert myself and I had the same worries, especially since I had to live off-campus my first semester. However, it really isn't as bad as you think. ND has the first year of studies, so pretty much everyone is taking their general requirements from the get-go. Once you get in sophomore year, everyone is just starting to take their major courses, so when you go that first day everyone else will be trying to introduce themselves because there are a lot of new faces for everyone. For instance, I found that many of my fellow Psychology majors were in their first Psych class above intro, so they were as interested in meeting everyone else as I was because they wanted to get to know the people who would be in their classes for the years to come.

Additionally, you will meet a lot of people in the dorm, so don't worry about it. It is not hard to meet people at ND!

Irish, is it possible to transfer into Mendoza?

thanks irish68178
i also am interested in mendoza, but i heard you cant transfer into there. is this true? any kind of back door into mendoza, such as switching majors after transferring?

don't exist, unfortunately.

The Arts & Letters evaluation guide on the ND website says:

Admission to the College of Arts and Letters is contingent upon enrollment in a liberal arts curriculum; therefore, admitted students will not be allowed to change to another college at the University during their first year and will not be allowed to transfer into the Mendoza College of Business at any time.

Edit: That is a new change...it didn't used to be like that. Bummer! You never know, you may still be able to swing it, but I wouldn't count on it now. Also, you can always study Economics which is in Arts and Letters.

Ah I didn't realize this.. what about double-majoring? I was admitted into Arts & Letters, would I be able to double major with something like Marketing?

Probably not without switching to business (unless they are very kind but usually they require business to be the primary). Assuming you are a student now, which it sounds like you are, I would talk with the deans at Mendoza ASAP.

Hey irish, can you judge me based upon my stats-

GPA -- 3.85
Business major, sphomore

SAT 1- 950

I know my scores is way low. But do you think it would be of greater emphasis if I apply as Junior?

ECs--> Computer Site Consultant, International Student Ambassador, Resident Adviosr.

Summer --> Summer 2006 did internship at father's logistics firm back at home + went for summer school at LSE.

Please post your evaluations about my chances at Mendoza
Thanks.

Im International. My nationality is Indian.

Oh, actually I'm an incoming freshman--I read the post about not being able to transfer into Mendoza as meaning you can't switch to Mendoza if you're in Arts & Letters already--I misunderstood. Plus, I just realized that you don't actually pick a school till the end of your freshman year; I just put down Arts & Letters when I applied.

Unfortunately D7 Mendoza isn't accepting any transfers right now...the best ND can do is you could transfer as an Economics major into Arts and Letters. Your GPA looks good and your SAT wouldn't be a factor, so no worries there. The biggest question is if you have the courses ND looks for or not as they take those very seriously!

Maggie, if you are an incoming freshman you will be able to go over to Mendoza even after your sophomore year. What they are trying to do is close the backdoor which I told people to exploit for years. Yeah, I don't think they like me :( but I helped a lot of people while it was open. It is too bad that they are closing it, they are denying a lot of people a great opportunity.

Yeah, I agree, it doesn't seem fair. Thanks for all the info.
