Hello all, I'm a freshman at Xavier University in Cincinnati for the class of 2016. Unfortunately, Xavier was not my top choice. That would be Notre Dame, where my dad attended and the school I've adored ever since I was six. Notre Dame has always been my dream school, but unfortunately I was rejected when I applied during my senior year of high school and I had to settle for a hefty scholarship from Xavier. While Xavier is very nice and I've made quite a few friends already, it's no Notre Dame and I can tell that it's just not the right fit.

My high school academics were as follows:
GPA: 3.65
ACT:26
SAT: (Math and CR) 1,260
Activities: NHS, Varsity Swimming Captain, Symphonic Band member, 90 hours of volunteering, Debate, Marching Band

I'm a white male and my intended major is going to be History. My college schedule for my first semester is Arabic 101, Theology 111, Calculus 150, Music:War and Peace, and European History Honors. I hope to transfer to Notre Dame after my freshman year. What do I need to do in order to make this dream a reality?

Hey Irish,

I transferred into Notre Dame this fall as a sophomore. From what I hear, this years transfer class was pretty competitive, but it can happen. My first advice would be to tell you to make sure you take classes that can fit into the first year of studies (explicit directions are on the transfer ND page). Other than that, I’d advise that, as hard as it is, try to forget about Notre Dame for a semester and try to enjoy Xavier. Its a great school, and who knows, you might want to stay. Its much easier to have fun this way, and to keep up your grades. Then in January, take a gut check–do I still feel the same way? If you do, go ahead and apply, or get ready to apply (pretty sure apps aren’t even due until like April or May?). I have to admit, I love it here, and its a amazing place. Good luck!

Hey,

I also just transferred into ND this fall as a sophomore. I agree with all that justwondering said…My advice to you is to:
- Take all of the classes shown on the nd transfer website
- Contact a transfer admissions counselor to let them know you are interested, and keep in contact with them throughout the year (i.e. send e-mails)
- I don’t want to be a debbie-downer or bearer-of-bad-news, but ND is getting harder and harder to get into each and every year. If you want a very good chance at getting in, try your absolute best to get a 4.0 or close to it. I know the website says the average for transfers the year before me was 3.7 or something, but if you want to give yourself a good shot, try more for 3.8+.
- Enjoy Xavier as much as you can … I was in the same boat as you one year ago and had my heart set on ND since I was little … I thought I’d be miserable anywhere else, but I opened up to the school I was at and enjoyed it a lot! Don’t think that just because Xavier isn’t ND that you can’t have a blast … trust me, I was right up the road on I-75 a year ago, and I’m glad I went there for a year before transferring to ND

All in all, have fun, study hard, and things will work itself out

Just curious, but were you accepted? Will you be attending notre dame this fall?
