I am currently a freshman at Tufts and I am thinking about transferring to Northwestern next fall. Does anyone have any tips as far as the application process goes as a transfer student? I will have somewhere around a 3.7-3.8 after my first semester here, taking a pretty difficult course load for a freshman (Eng 1, Calc 3, Spa 21, Econ, Business of NBA). I am thinking of applying for MMSS and then the Industrial Engineering major. Is this a good route to go, or am I setting myself up for failure to transfer?

I applied to Northwestern in HS and was rejected. I had a 3.8 and 33 ACT in high school (and some good SAT II scores).

a 3.7 at Tufts is very respectable. Write strong essays and you should get in since transfer admissions is more straightforward. I’m not familiar with the MMSS/IE requirements though.

Thanks for the input. I am just not familiar with how transferring into the engineering school works, especially since I am not in the engineering school here. If I were to stay at Tufts, I would major in Quantitative Economics, while I would likely want to do IE at Northwestern (maybe Econ…). I’m not a very typical engineering student, though I am intrigued by the IE program and a combination with the Kelly Certificates.

Any more input into the McCormick would be great!

MMSS sophomore entry is pretty much impossible. They reject many NU freshmen with 3.8/3.9. It’s much easier to get in as incoming freshmen.

By the way, IE has a special arrangement with econ department to double-count certain courses so that students have easier time to earn double major within 4 years (though many don’t really need it because they come in with enough AP credits)
