Transferring to Ohio State - Need Help!

Hey everybody. New to the forums. I am transferring to Ohio State for the winter quarter 2011 as a sophmore. Right now its just really overwhelming. Right now, the most important thing I’m worried about is housing. I’m debating between getting an apartment or just staying at a dorm. Any suggestions on that. Areas to avoid?? Housing is really my biggest concern right now. I already contacted my advisor and am going to schedule classes so I’ll be all set with that, I just don’t know where I’m going to be living! lol

Thanks in advance!

I think it is best to start out in the dorm so you get to meet some people and are right on campus. Call the housing office and see what they can do. If they can’t get you into a dorm for winter, there are plenty of rental options. There’s an offcampus housing tab on the housing site that might be helpful in your search. Definitely try there if the dorms are full. Good luck!

I second the suggestion to apply to the dorms, it will help you to meet people, and a lot of sophomores stay in the dorms, so you won’t stick out. A meal plan is also a good idea if you aren’t much for cooking.

Off-campus housing is probably cheaper, depending on where you look, but you would be able to find housing off campus if you start looking soon, as leases are up for renewal soon, and the rental companies will be able to tell you what’s available.
