Transferring to Other UC's

hey guys, I might plan on transferring out of ucr in 2 years. I dont know where yet but it’s going to be somewhere up north. I was thinking about trying for UCB, UCD or UOP. I know it’s going to be hard to transfer since priority is given last for us but i think it’s a good attempt. I’m trying to get into a med school upon graduation so ill probably be trying to keep my gpa >3.7.

So far i really like the campus here in ucr and i think the science facilities here are really good as well. The thing i dont like here is what’s outside of ucr, you have to drive a distance to get anywhere (which i dont mind) but the freeway is really messed up here, and the weather in so cal does not really appeal me. That’s why i’m looking for some place up north since it’s much closer to home. But something that’s stopping me from truly wanting to transfer are:

UCB: harder school, surrounding isnt much more different than ucr
UOP: not known for its science
UCD: dont know much about this place

and overall ill have to make new friends, meet new professors, and basically start over. Is it worth it? Will coming out of a more prestigious school with a high gpa make my chance of admission in med school betteR?

Transferring between UC's is pretty hard, but not impossible. Med schools generally do not care what school you go to for undergrad, the way they account for the differences between schools is by MCATS. This is the same thing for undergrad except SATS are the standard.

Well if you don't like what's outside of UCR, you certainly won't like what's outside of UCD (farm-land galore). And UC Berkeley, sorry to say, isn't the best place to go for pre-med (maybe for some, not as good as UCR) for the simple reason that Bmbmasta stated above: med schools generally do not care about which school you attended for undergrad, and care a lot more about overall GPA. Anyway, if you're really bent on transferring, visit the two schools and go from there.

I suggest you come and visit UCD dude. vicissitudes gives a rather inaccurate picture of Davis. The university is located in a college town. The whole town revolves around the school and it is a really beautiful and fun place to be. You can get almost anywhere by bike. 13 minutes from Davis (by car) is downtown Sacramento and there is lots of fun stuff to do there as well. The bay area is a one hour drive. I see lots of kids on here complaining about being bored, but not the Davis kids. It is awesome here. I have not been bored yet.

It's not worth it alone but if you are happier, you will do your best in school. Plus, Riverside is not good in terms of air quality, get out!

Apply to different places and see where you get in and go. And I am according to the above poster, the only bored Davis kid.

why isnt ucb good for pre-med? how is ucr better? i thought it wouldnt matter since med schools generally dont care. UCD was my first choice after h.s. but i didnt get in. Why can't norcal get more UC's!

Berkeley has harder pre-requisite courses than Riverside. The competition at Riverside is incomparable to Cal.

UoP is known for dentistry, pharmacy, and other medical sciences, so i wouldn't say that.
