Transferring to Pitt Engineering

This is a really weird situation so anyone who even tries to help me, I would like to thank you right now. Anyways, I was accepted to the University of Pittsburgh Main Campus into the business school, but I applied really early and have since changed my mind and I really want to do Chemical Engineering. I got a call from the University two nights ago and that was one of my questions and the lady said it was possible to transfer into the engineering school. Does anyone think that they would let me transfer into their engineering school (considering it is relatively high ranked)?

3.70 UW GPA
3.90 W GPA
1930 SAT (670 M 630 CR 630 W)
AP Classes taken: European History, Chemistry, US Government/Politics
CHS Classes (through Pitt): Physics
Honors Classes taken: English 9, English 10, English 11, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, US History (Civil War-WW2), World History
National Honors Society Member since 10th grade
Many clubs such as Robotics, Philosophy and World Cultures
Volunteer and Extracurricular activities: Cub Scout Asst. Den Leader, Baseball Asst. Coach, Inline Hockey, Football Clock operator, concession worker for the marching band competitions, employee at sheetz, umpire

Again, I was already accepted into Pitt’s CBA but I really want engineering. Thanks for any help…

Your GPA and SAT put you on par for overall averages for Pitt. You do have AP Chem and Pitt Physics on your application as well, which is good for applying into SSOE (they want to see strong math/science classes/activities when possible).

I’m guessing you’re in state (since you took Physics at Pitt) but you don’t mention ethnicity or gender. It’s a little easier to get into SSOE if you’re female or a minority (i.e. not a white male) but that shouldn’t really hurt you either.

Mostly I would talk to someone ASAP, it shouldn’t be too hard to switch from Business to SSOE since your stats aren’t bad in the math/science area. If for some reason they don’t allow the switch before you start, I would talk to someone ASAP and begin by taking the typical first year engineering classes (Chem, Physics, Calc, Programming if they’ll let you in) and then transfer into the school after 1-2 semesters.

Yeah what I did was contacted the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid and the woman I talked to put in a request for my application to be reconsidered for the SSOE. I am in state, I am white, and I am a male. I’m hoping I get in but if not I’ll just try to transfer in later like you said.
