I am a sophomore at a large Canadian university. In high school I applied, and was accepted to, Reed College (among other schools). Ever since I decided to come to my current school and turn down Reed I have regretted it immensely.

In high school I had a 3.9 GPA and got a 2100 on my SATs. My GPA since getting to university has dropped immensely due to the nature of the school and the program I am in, which has a mandatory average of 75% (a 2.0).

I have been starting my transfer application to Reed, but I'm just not sure if I even have a chance at getting back in.

Transfer admissions at Reed are more competitive than regular admissions, I think around 15-20% acceptance (sorry I can’t cite a source for that, it’s just a figure I recall).

Having been accepted before will probably help your chances (esp if you are able to demonstrate how much you have always wanted to attend Reed). Having a bad college GPA won’t. Also, you don’t say whether you are Canadian, but if you are an international student needing Financial Aid, your chances are pretty slim. But perhaps there are other factors in your favor-- good professor recommendations, interesting activities, academic promise…?

One other thing worth mentioning is that Reed can be picky about accepting transfer credits (and especially any grades lower than a C), so you should probably expect to be set back at least one semester if not two, if you were to be admitted.

If Reed is where you really want to be, there’s no reason NOT to apply and see what happens. The worst that could happen is being rejected, which isn’t the end of the world. You might consider calling the admissions office to talk about your continued interest in Reed and your current situation (the transfer coordinator is very nice).
