I'm looking to transfer to the Rutgers-NB SAS from community college. Normally, this would be pretty straightforward but my situation is little..ah..delicate.

Basically, I have a 4.0 (12 credits) from Raritan Valley Community College and a really, really **** GPA from Middlesex County College. I went to MCC at first when I graduated from high school back in '06 and just did terrible. This continued until I was put on Academic Dismissal back in '08. From then I took a break from school to get my **** in order and went to RVCC for the Fall 2010 semester and achieved the aforementioned 4.0. Since RVCC is rather far from where I live I decided to transfer back to/get readmitted to MCC (I was) and continue my education there until I had enough credits to transfer to Rutgers. However, after this current semester I will have 31 total credits, a 4.0 from RVCC but a goddamn 1.8 GPA from MCC. If I take classes at MCC for Fall 2011 and maintain my grades by the end of the Fall 2011 semester I'll have a 2.45.

How ****ed am I if try to transfer to Rutgers for the Spring 2012 semester?

I would call it 50-50, honestly, still apply - they really appreciate an upward trend. I’ve seen people get in with very low cumulatives, but like a 4.0 for the past two semesters. You probably would have a much better chance with an associates, or another semester under your belt, but still apply!

Also - much less spots available for Spring than for Fall… so maybe less of a chance. Good luck anyway, you might want to post over @ the Rutgers forum :).

You should have stayed at RVCC and maintained a 4.0 for this semester and for next fall, while completing all of your 1st and 2nd year courses that you need to transfer to Rutgers (even if it means taking courses again you already failed at MCC) and then explained your gap years in your education without mentioning anything about Middlesex County College…
Well that’s what I would have done anyway.

I did think of that but driving to RVCC was destroying my wallet. If it was closer to me that’s what I would have done. As others have said I think my options are earning my AS at MCC then transferring and/or just a few more semesters and applying and hoping.
