transferring to Science at UCLA?

My first choice is biochem. But i hear it's a tough major to get into. Is Chem easier? What's a better alternative?

WHat GPA is needed?

chem is definitely easy because it's not an impacted major at UCLA....according to what i've heard, if you're a ccc students and have GPA of 3.5 with TAP, you're pretty much set for chemistry at UCLA, but for biochemistry, it's more competitive since it's an impacted major....i applied to UCLA for biochemistry with a 3.7, and hope i get in...i'll let you know if i do...

If you're interested in Berkeley their admittance rate to Chemistry is ridiculously high -- something like 50%. It's also interesting to add that Berkeley is #1 in the country for Chemical Engineering (and recently announced #1 in the world for Engineering overall).

ccct for chem major, When u say 3.5 does that include all classes or just sciences? Is physics important or can i get away with not taking it? I am not a tap does that hurt me a lot? Is bio required for chem major as well?
Thanks. Let me know if u get in.

thanks coms, ucb is not where i wanna go.

My choices are
UCLA
UCSB

at least average 3.5 in major prep course and overall...it's not necessary to take physics, most people wait until they transfer to take physics, but if you can get it done then tat's good...not being part of TAP doesnt hurt you, but your chances are higher with TAP, much higher...you should consider applying to berkeley for chemistry...they have a great program..

I applied to Berkeley and UCLA with bioengineering as my intended major, I assumed it was an impacted major but wasn't sure, does anyone know whether or not it's impacted?

Transfer admission for Fall 2004 in Bioengineering was 18%. You must have at least 80% of your lower division completed in the spring term prior to fall enrollment.

I'm at a community college in Massachusetts where they can't help me with any of the lower division class information because they don't know anything about it, and they aren't willing to find out. However, I went on the UCLA website and saw the recommended classes and tried to take those. I will have completed a year of biology, a year of calculus, and a year of chemistry, the rest of my classes were either social sciences or humanities. Would that be close to the 80% or am I automatically disqualified for the bioengineering program?

No. Not close to 80%.

Chemistry 1A, 3A, 3B
Physics 7A, 7B
Biology 1A
Science Electives: Biology 1B or Physics 7C
Electrical Engineering 40 or 100
Engineering 77 (or CS 61A or 61B)

You are not precluded from admission. Being out-of-state will hurt a lot though.
