I was just admitted for the spring semester this past week. I was feeling pretty good about it, but honestly I can't seem to find any positive word about the place! I realize it has a reputation for being a "party school", but is it really such a "joke"? And why? I was always under the impression that it was a respectable college. Sure, it isn't UCSD, but still decent academically, or so I thought. Can anybody shed some positive light here? Am I really going to go through life with a tainted educational background if I attend SDSU?

For what it's worth, I am a History major and my goal is go into teaching. I applied to UCSD as well for the fall, however, because I was admitted into the spring semester for state it puts me in a weird spot. If I pass up on SDSU I'm risking my chances at both schools. All that to say for my purposes, going through one or the other doesn't seem to give me any particular advantage - except that I live down the street from UCSD. I'd save money on parking. ;)

I’d wait for UCSD only because of the prestigue, but really it shouldn’t matter if you’re going to be a teacher. CSU’s produce many good teachers. I know about 8 teachers and 6 of 8 went to CSU’s, one went to a private, and one to UCSB… the one that went to UCSB isn’t paid more than the others. So if you’re going to pay for tuition then CSU’s are cheaper…if you get FA for both then it doesn’t matter…and if you want to get a head start on school then enroll in Spring…also, the classes at UCSD will be more demanding than those at SDSU. It’s really your decision to make…

Yeah. It’s tough for me. I’m 25 and a mom. When it comes down to it I would rather attend UCSD, but I am worried that if I passed up going to state this spring (since I won’t find out on UCSD for a bit) then I would risk being out for both schools for a longer period of time - time I don’t really have. I thought I was content to go to SDSU, but now I am not so sure. I don’t want to attend a place I won’t feel proud of. I don’t want to feel like my degree is tainted.

See why I’m nervous? I have a pretty tainted background. One counselor told me colleges tend to look highly on students who have showed an upward slope in GPA, but I am not sure it’s enough.

Hmm I don’t think you qualify for academic renewal so your gpa is that…if you’re taking classes this Fall then these grades could raise your gpa … we send an update in Feb. I think you have a chance, slim chance.

If you don’t get into UCSD for fall 11’ will you get into SDSU fall '11? If so, just wait…
