Transferring to the Engineering School

Hi guys, I'm currently a freshman at Texas A&M and I'm looking to transfer to the chemical engineering program at Austin for Fall 2011. I just want to get an idea from you guys about my chances? Also, do High School and standardized test grades matter? Either way, here are some of my stats:
Current Fall 2010 courses: Physics 218 (mechanics), Math 151 (calculus I) VTPB 221 (just a core curriculum elective) POLS 207 (local and state govt). My projected grade in all of these courses is an A, so hopefully I can keep it.

Community College courses: Just one so far, U.S. government and I got an A

Other Credits: English Composition, Chem 101 & 102 (basically, the first year chemistry that chemical engineers must take).

Notable High School Achievements: IB diploma with sevens in physics HL, chemistry HL, Arabic B HL, ITGS SL, and Math SL. Got a 6 in English A1 SL. Also, top of my class (of 40 students , it was a small school in Jordan, yes the country, but I am a Texas resident, just went to High School out of texas). SAT: 1960

Extracurricular: I did a number of activities in high school, not gonna list them. However, I haven't done much in Texas A&M, does that matter?

Please Comment! Anything is useful!

I transferred from A&M into Cockrell’s just this year. UT won’t care about your high school stats. The only things that they will look at are your GPA (most important), credits/hours (at least 30 to be even looked at), and your essays/resume. Just make sure you get the best GPA you can get as that will be the most important factor for transferring.

might i ask, what type of engineering did u transfer to and what GPA do u think i need to completely ensure my admission. i’m hoping to have a 3.85. also, do i need to have 30 credits by the time I apply in march or do they consider the credits i will earn in spring 2011. because, when i actually apply, i will only have 28, and this includes the credits i was given for my IB classes (that counts, right?)

I transferred into BME (Biomedical Engineering). I think you need at least a 3.8 GPA, but I’ve met some people with lower. UT will only look at your application after you have completed 30 credits (yes, includes IB/AP classes). So that means that they will not look at your app until after Spring '11 semester ends and you’ve submitted your transcript. After that it will take a couple of weeks for a decision.
EC’s aren’t that important (I had some, but no leadership). To reiterate, GPA is the most important factor for transfers. Make sure to get the best GPA you can get. A 4.0 GPA with the prereqs finished will get you in.
