Transferring to Tulane

Hello.

I've been receiving numerous letters from Tulane University. I'm currently at a top 50 institution, but Tulane really piqued my interest. I'm considering applying as a transfer student. I have a 3.81 GPA in Chemical Engineering and Pre-Med and they told me that they will waive my SAT and ACT scores for me, considering my GPA and number of credit hours completed. Should I give it a shot? I heard that admission to Tulane is extremely competitive. What are my chances of being admitted as a transfer student?

@ivytransferer‌ - I am not sure anyone can give you a great answer on this, but if they are sending you letters they must have some space available. Yes it is competitive, but they also must know your record somehow it would appear. Also being in ChemE (I assume you are sticking with that) is probably a plus.

Just out of curiosity, why are you interested in leaving where you are now?

@fallenchemist‌ : I’m interested in leaving because I do not like it here at my current university. It has too much of a party atmosphere and I hate that. It doesn’t have that intellectual feel that I’m looking for in a college.

Well, Tulane might not be your best choice then. It is in New Orleans, after all. It probably isn’t any more of a party school than your current one or most others, but it probably isn’t less either. Most schools are more similar in this regard than many people realize. 18-22 year old people are pretty much the same everywhere. I am not sure you will escape it by changing schools. You might have a better outcome staying put (you are obviously doing well in school) and trying harder to find other students that are not into the party scene. At a top 50 school, you should be able to find them. I know Tulane has quite a few, despite its party reputation.
