I'll start with my background. I'm 19 years old, currently attending a community college in Virginia. My currently declared major is Business Administration (A.A.), and I'm coming up on my second year at the college. I didn't really have a plan going into college, other than get really good grades, which I have done, maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I also landed an internship as a teller at a financial institution over the summer. I took 14 credits my first semester, 19 my second, and looking at 20 this semester. 9 honors credits thus far, and planning on 9 this semester. I held two jobs for most of my first two semesters. I took the SAT twice for a combined score of 1280. I was invited to Phi Theta Kappa Honor's Society, and I was elected VP Of Finance for this upcoming year. I also served on the Senate last year and will be continuing this year.
So for the advice... I plan on taking this course to the University of Virginia. Namely, the McIntire School of Commerce. McIntire School of Commerce Ranks No. 2 in BusinessWeek
2nd Highest Ranked Undergraduate Business Program in the country.
You can see the criteria for which I will be assessed here: Application Process: Transfer Students
I could go this uncertain route, and apply to transfer to McIntire, or choose the guaranteed route by applying to UVA's College of Arts and Sciences, where my major would be Economics.
I am having a hard time deciding whether or not I should take the risk, and go to the second best undergraduate business program in the country, or settle for a stellar degree from an awesome university (which happens to be guaranteed via an agreement with the VCCS (virginia community college system).
What are your thoughts, folks of reddit?
TL;DR: Business Finance degree, or Economics degree?

If you’re really passionate about UVA, I would go with Econ. It’s just really really hard to get into McIntire for external transfers, and they no longer consider applicants for a “back up school” so to speak.

I was in the VCCS too, so if you have any questions about GAA feel free to message me :)

I also planned to transfer to McIntire, but rumor has it that UVa only admits student into their arts&science college and school of architect this year. I am not very sure about the validity of it nevertheless. I think maybe you can give it a try. UVa is a wonderful school and McIntire is definitely prestigious.
I think your background is pretty impressive, seriously! I would suggest you to some schools higher in rank. However, your SAT is a bit weak. You probably should either retake it or simply not to submit the score at all. Many schools DO NOT require SAT for transfer students.
If you insist on B-school, I would recommend Goituaze from Emory. It ranked 3rd in Businessweek and Emory is also very good per se.
Wish it will be helpful!

iantoz - UVA only admits students for Arts & Sciences and Architectural History in the spring, but offers were made to several schools for this fall.

Hello, I am currently a sophomore student at Seton Hall University, a small Catholic school in Northern New Jersey. Recently, I have re-evaluated my situation at Seton Hall and feel I could thrive at a more competitive school. After completing research and reviewing my grades/test scores/extra curricular activities(listed below), I have decided to apply to the University of Virginia and the University of North Carolina. I am asking anyone who has any knowledge about these schools at whether or not you think I would be able to be admitted to these schools. Also, does anyone have any recommendations to schools I should apply to(preferably down south)? Size does not matter to me! Thanks to anyone who can help!

Ending High School GPA: 3.1 our of 4.0
SAT score: 1850
Seton Hall University GPA: 3.498 out of 4.0 (planning on getting a 3.7 this year)

Extra Curricular activities:
-Started a Club Lacrosse team at my current school.
-Write for the school news paper.
-Part of the Italian Student Union.
-Leadership program(Business honors program).
-F.O.C.U.S.- Catholic Charity Program.

jeffm - I gave you my opinion on your other thread but if you have any specific questions about UVA feel free to message me!

Just wondering, does UVA take 3rd year going onto 4th year transfers?

The latest semester you can apply is 5th - so halfway through third year for spring admission. The exception is if you are a student in the VCCS.
