I am trying to transfer to UCB as a Computer Science major and I received my first C in my 2nd quarter of Calculus. (Math1B in De Anza CCC)

I calculated that if I get A's for rest of my classes in my CCC, which I am about to accomplish, I will get a GPA of 3.83, or maybe a little lower if I get a B and A's for everything else.

Will that grade of C in a major prep class going to hurt my chance at all?

I will be finishing IGETC and all the possible major prep classes my CCC offer.

As a Computer Science major hoping to transfer to UCB if you had to get a C in something it would have been an awful lot better if you had got it in History or Sociology rather than Calculus. What did you get in Calculus 1A? I believe you now have to take Calculus 3 and possibly other math classes before you transfer. It is imperative that you get an A in each math class you take from now on in cc to have a chance for computer science at Berkeley.

I got a C in calc1 but a B in calc2 and I’m a math major lol. I’m taking calc3 and diff eq/lin alg this semester.
But I applied to Berkeley and I think I’ll get in simply because there aren’t many math majors.

But you’re a computer science major…and it’s obviously a more competitive major so maybe this is not so good. I think if you redeem yourself in calc3 you should be fine.

@wwlink I’m pretty sure a lot of students who have majors that are more in demand, like mine (math), get in with some C’s. But F’s? lololol.

I haven’t filled the Berkeley forms out yet… But in my personal statement I did explain how I struggled at first with Calculus because the class really emphasized concepts instead of the structural nature of lower mathematics. So I plan on writing something similar on the supplemental form.
