I’m a 21 year old male. I had to leave school due to a very close relative being very ill. I assisted in care for them. I was often leaving/skipping class to care for them which did result in poor grades and failures. But I put my family first. I’m planning on returning this fall and possibly even taking some summer classes. I took the college placement test in 11th grade but I did poorly on account of the fact that I was very sick and unable to focus. I ended up having to take a remedial english and math course. I failed them both in the first semester and passed math with an A or B in the second semester. I failed english again (because I missed one too many days) and chemistry. I will also note that I was born with a developmental disability, which causes me to have a hard time understanding and processing certain things. So I finished my first year with around a 2.3 GPA. I know, not good. My original major was business but after a little research, I decided that engineering would be a better fit for me. I’ve done A LOT of research on transferring to UCLA. I know that UCLA has an excellent engineering program. I’m actually planning a road trip to Los Angeles to visit UCLA in April along with CalTech, USC and possibly UC San Diego. I may even take extra math, english, and science courses to get to where I need to be. I’ll have no places I will need to be that are more important this time so I should be able to achieve a much higher grade. As far as UCLA goes, I’m not worried about paying for it as most 4 years programs near me aren’t far behind in price. Plus, I receive grants that cover 99% of my schooling. No matter where I go.
A few things you should know if you plan to transfer to UCLA for Engineering.
-
For a UC transfer, Out of state community college transfers have the lowest priority. Also UCLA only accepts Junior level transfers with 60 semester or 90 quarter units.
-
Based on the the most transfer GPA admit data, the minimum UC Transfer GPA needed for UCLA was a 3.8+. I really do not think that a 2.3 GPA is going to cut it at this point.

- You need to take all required General education and major pre-req required courses prior to transfer and being OOS makes it even more difficult to determine which courses will articulate.

I suggest you make an appointment at UCLA and meet with an admissions advisor to plan your transfer.
Are these grants for any school in the country? If so, please enlighten the CC posters on this program and how you plan to achieve your goal in getting into some of the top colleges for Engineering.
You have been given a lot of great advice under @TrucksRule . You may not have liked what you heard, but people were/are trying to help you. Starting new threads under a new name will not change the advice you’ve gotten from people who know more about college admissions and financial aid than you do. It’s also against the forum rules to create multiple accounts.
