Transferring to UCLA,UCI,UCB,UCSD

Currently a freshman at OCC.

I will have a 3.55 (including summer grades) by the end of my freshman year. This will be the GPA that I submit to the schools mentioned above and I will also have IGETC completed by the time of transfer. Do I have a shot at these schools?

For what major?

Sorry!

UCLA-Bus Econ. or Communications
UCI-International Studies or Econ.
UCSD-Management Sciences
UCB-Bus Admin.

UCLA - reach
UCB - reach
UCI - match / safety
UCSD - match

It will be tough.. but you are in the range.

UCB and UCLA would be easier as a junior transfer. It will give you some time to raise your gpa. Also you need to have all major pre req's done for UCLA and UCB in order to be considered. You definately have a shot though. Good luck!

Well, I'll be going in those schools as a Junior. I just have to apply by this upcoming fall of 2006.

Regarding Berkeley, applying with a major in business admin would mean you're applying to Haas, which is incredibly tough to get into. I'm not saying it's impossible, but You've got to have some outstanding extras to bring to the table.

From what I understand of the Haas admissions process, you're 3.55 is not competitive for the average accepted applicant. You need at least a 3.7 to be in their scope of probable applicants.

On some assuring news, they have in the past accepted people with ~2.8 GPA but they were able to some how persuade the ad comm with some compelling essays/personal background/experience.

In my opinion, I would encourage you to apply under Econ to Berke. If you really want Bus Ad, apply to Econ then apply to Haas for Bus Ad. It will still be challenging because you won't have a lot of units (units/gpa is reset at UC) to show you what you're capable of, but in my opinion your current 3.55 is pretty much a no shot unless you haven't mentioned something I do not know.

With respect to LA, you're in their range as an applicant plus you're allowed to submit a backup major. I would highly advise choosing bus-econ for first pick.

UCLA has alternate majors only for TAP certified students.

What? You're not serious.

Yes..Malishka31 is right..."ucla has alternate majors for only TAP certified students." This is part of the reason the admittance rate for TAP students is so high..

Yep, the alternate major is misleading in that way--it is worthless unless you are TAP certified.

if bus. admin at UCB is at haas then you won't get in...you should get in UCI and maybe UCSD...UCLA maybe

UCLA comm is extremely competitive in case you were not aware. You need around a 3.8 gpa to have a chance since the average admittance rate for transfers is 3.87

haha no, surprisingly enough I am aware. It just sucks because I applied to Bus.econ thinking if i didn't get in i'd have a shot for international econ as my second choice.

Now i'm really depressed.

Don't be depressed ninabanina....ucla hasn't rejected you yet..think positively!

did you include fall grades? They do look at Fall if you did not know. In the UC app, they never ask for GPA, just grades and classes. You are then asked to fulfill an update in Jan. for the grades for Fall.
