transferring to UCSB Econ

Hi, Im currently at a CCC and want to transfer out to UCSB for economics; however, I'm at about a 3.0 right now and its my second semester in college. I did well my first semester where I got a 3.333, but this second semester killed my gpa and brought it down to like a 2.95xxx. Should I be punching myself in the face right now? Thanks!

Yes. Bring it up to a 3.2 minimum

But do i still have time for that or did i completely screw myself over?

You have until end of fall 2012. Take a lot of easy classes during summer–it’s short, fast, and can boost your GPA

you mean 2013? Because im still a freshman and to get to the 60 units I have about another 29 more to go :D. Can I raise my gpa by atleast .25 in 29 units?

Then you have plenty of time! Just try to get all A’s and sign up for SB TAG program do you are guaranteed acceptance. And finish your 2 English 1 math ASAP!!

Dude thanks!! I dont know why I completely let myself go this semester, I think it had something to do with going to UCSB every weekend (he dorms there) and getting drunk and etc etc. But yeah i had a good trend going, got an A in art history in summer, then 3.0 in fall, no winter semester but then in spring i have a 2.5 now man… =[

But yeah, I love the campus completely, and during middleschool i was part of a program called AVID where we visited new campuses regularly, i went to irvine, san diego, cal states, etc. but im completely in love with UCSB, not because of the party atmosphere but the campus itself is just beautiful and easy going.

I have finished most of my hard courses already, im taking econ 102 and next semester ill do 101. I have finished Math 100 (college algebra) and am finishing up my second English course this semester. most of my IGETC is almost done, i even took speech on accident and got an A so i hope UCSB doesnt discount it from my gpa.

^^You are going to need to take Calculus 1 + 2 -OR- Business/Social Calculus. You also need to take statistic’s for SB Econ

SB will not calculate any non-transferable courses into your UC GPA. In other words, if it isn’t UC-transferable the it won’t affect your GPA.

Speech 101 is transferrable but it isnt UC required , only cal state requires it. does it still transfer or affect my gpa?

I am also taking statistics atm.

^^If it’s UC-Transferable course then it will affect your GPA

Will you be applying for transfer this fall? If you’re planning on attending UCSB in fall of 2013, you only have until the end of fall/winter semester to boost your GPA. They will not look at spring grades of 2013. Make sure you complete Macro and Micro econ as well as Stats, and Calc1 + Calc2 (or the calculus courses for social science majors) by the end of winter semester.

Ok, so I just want to start off saying I was accepted into UCSB out of highschool, I just decided to go to a CCC to save like $60,000. I am really trying to transfer in one year. I completed 21 units in Fall 12 which include calc 2, english 2, and both econ 1 and 2, plus some other classes to become IGETC certified. I also have 21 AP units (not including english lit, will they accept that as well) all with 4s and 5s) I’m taking 20 units this semester and will be fully IGETC certified and will have all my major Prereqs done. First semester GPA= 3.42.

Recap: 41 real units from a CC and 21-26 AP units from high school, 3.42 GPA thus far, do I have a chance of being able to transfer in one year?, or do I have too many Ap units to be competitive??

Bakoguy, do you go to Bakersfield College man?

yeah, I go to BC, thought it was obvious haha, but ccc is california community college, and cc is just community college, as im sure you know haha
