I'm currently a first year student at UCSC. I really like it here, but I'm barely in my second quarter and I'm already getting home sick. I'm thinking about transferring to UCSB because it's closer to home (I'm from LA). How do I begin this process? Also, can anyone tell me the pros & cons of UCSB? Thanks :)

Also, does UCSB have a good Anthropology program?

well you wouldnt be able to transfer till at least next winter… which im not sure if ucsb accepts winter transfers. if not, then you would be transferring in during fall 2011.

you apply just like normal, because unless you have 60 +units than you are considered a regular decision applicant.

Its hard to predict what will happen with the CA budget, but there was talk of really clamping down on the xfer admit rate. Your safest route if you want to boost the odds you’ll be admitted would be to spend a year at a CC prior to applying because CC students get priority and are even eligible for guarantee programs. In fact you could enroll at SBCC, the community college in Santa Barbara, then live in an apartment in Isla Vista during that year like many UCSB students do, which would give you 3 years of the UCSB experience (2 of them as an enrolled student).

And if you’re considering the SBCC path, perhaps you could even be at UCSB as early as this spring! Look into enrolling at UCSB as a visiting student this spring quarter, then spend the following year at SBCC. See http://www.registrar.ucsb.edu/Intercampus.htm for info on who to contact to see if this would be possible.

send a PM over to rc251! he’s great help around here.
