Transferring to UCSC

I want to transfer to UCSC and am going to be considered to be coming from another four year institution. I'm applying as a Philosophy major, have 8 philosophy classes under my belt (all As except one B+) and an overall GPA fo 3.83. Aside from that, I was the president of a philosophy club for a year, secretary of an honors club, a research apprentice and member of a bylaws committee.

Does anyone have any idea how to take all of this information and turn it into an idea of whether I will make it in or not?

Thanks

go talk to your counselor!!
really, dont waste time on this forum!!

Sounds like you have a pretty good shot. You’re GPA is pretty solid, good extracurriculars, The only thing I see working against you is that you’re not transferring from a CA community college (since CCC transfers have priority in admissions to the UC system). Where would you be transferring from?

I had a slightly lower GPA, no extracurriculars, but a lot of work experience, and I was accepted for winter 2010 transfer. I’ll be attending UCSC starting in January.

[edit] Listen to Wholala. Talk to a counselor at your school, and double-check every piece of info s/he says! Sometimes counselors don’t know as much as they like to think they do, but they’re still a better resource than this forum in many cases. Anyway, hope my experience above helps you!

If I were you, I would just do my own research. Don’t rely on this forum or your counselor. My personal opinion is that you are a pretty sure in. Just make sure your classes transfer and that you have enough units to be considered.

I am coming from a community college but because I went to a University for the first year of my schooling, those units make me count as a four year transfer.

^^to the OP

I was told (because i’m in a similar situation as you are) that if you went to a 4yr, then transferred to a 2-yr, you’re not considered a 4-yr student unless you have less than 30 units from the 2-yr :P

exactly. But I think that only applies in the case of UC Santa Cruz.
