Transferring to UCSF w/ W's?

Hey. My situation is kind of weird. sucks breath in, here goes

I went to community college for two years, finished that with straight-A's and transferred into UC Berkeley as a Sociology major. Finished that recently with about a 3.5 GPA.

NOW, I decided to totally switch everything around and go for pharmacy. My aim is UCSF. Right now I'm back at the same community college taking the required science courses in order to transfer in. Here lies the problem. For a bunch of reasons I'm just not cutting it. First semester back in I take calculus and got a D. Retook that class and got a C. That same semester I retook the math class I took a withdrawal from chemistry and got a W. I'm retaking that chemistry class now and getting a borderline A/B (yes, yes, I know, GET THE A). NOW......I'm bombing again in the second part of the calculus series.

I'm thinking about dropping the calculus class and retaking it again next semester. Does anyone here have any experience or advice as to if this will affect me greatly? Is it better to stick in the class and try for a passing C, or drop it and try again next semester? I'd appreciate if you can tell me your past experience in this, too.

Thanx.

To be honest, those drops and W's will not impress the #1 pharmacy school in the country. I don't understand how you let yourself get a D in calculus. If anyone worked their hardest in a class, he or she could at least get a B. I'm not sure how UCSF works with retaking courses, but they could do one of three things: take the best grade obtained, average the grades, or not accept any retakes at all.

Be very careful with your future courses. You seem to be early in the chemistry series, so you have organic chem and biochemistry to take. You have plenty of time to improve your science GPA [which is your GPA of math, physics, biology and chemistry courses] to at least a 3.3 GPA.

As for the 2nd course in calculus, it's really hard to tell whether you should drop it or take the C. Your science GPA is already low with the D and C. But a flood of W's is not very impressive either. All I have to say is START STUDYING! I know you're not doing the best you can in these classes. What you should also consider are other pharmacy schools. UCSF is very tough to get into.
