So I want to know my chance of transferring to UGA.

Moved from Europe (military kid) and went to Northern Arizona University freshman year. Long story short is that I had a major culture shock (despite me thinking otherwise) and ended up with a gpa of 1.07. Moved to Florida with my father working two jobs as service associate and child daycare assistant and going to school online at Colorado Technical University (picked a random major international business). My father went there as well and hyped me up to believe I could raise my gpa easily and transfer to the college of my choice in a years time. I've only taken two classes here so far and doing well. I found a really cool program that would be amazing to get into. And its to get a certificate in the music business program at the UGA Terry College of Business. I did my research and if I got in I could get this certificate and work towards my masters in marketing which would benefit me in the music industry. The problem is....how bad I messed up at NAU. And since research that colorado is a quarter credit and only like 5 classes count there I don't what to do. Should I transfer to the community college in my town or stick with it since I'm using my mothers G.I. Bill as well? I've taken 33 credits at nau with a 1.07 gpa. and I haven't figured out how many credits Ill have at CTU because its a quarterly semester but I want to try to apply to transfer for next fall. If anyone has ANY advice it would be great.
I know they only accept transfers with a 3.4 but I know I can get it up but I want to figure out the right path to do it.

Hmm…

I can think of a couple things that would be to your benefit… First, with a 1.07 GPA at NAU, I’m not quite sure how you have 33 credits? Usually anything below a C- is failing a class (under a +/- system).

Second, retake the classes you didn’t do well on and UGA will take the average grade as part of your new GPA (the UGA GPA that they calculate).

It sounds to me like you would be applying as a junior transfer, correct? Junior transfers require 60+ credits and at least a 2.8 GPA. If you have 33 credits now, and take another 30 credits before the application deadline for next fall (April 1st deadline), AND get your GPA up, you have a solid shot.

Also, just a heads up, the Terry College of Business is hard to get into. UGA put out this statement on their website, “Transfer students with an intended major within the Terry College of Business or the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication who have 60 or more earned credit hours should be advised of the difficulty of admission to these programs due to high demand.”

Good luck! If you need any other help, feel free to message me!

Just wanted to comment that the music business program and Terry are stellar and you will have to put forth a lot of effort to get accepted. Perhaps you could get in contact with someone in the music business department or admissions and explain your unique situation. A personal connection could make a difference. That said, good luck with your journey!

UGA is pretty competitive to transfer into. I got in with a 3.35, but I transferred into the Engineering school which is small and has space. With hard work you should be able to get in as a junior, but like a lot of people said before, getting into the big colleges is really really tough. I hope you pull it off though.
