Transferring to universities in the US

I am currently enrolled in an engineering university in Pakistan for a bachelors degree in Mechanical Enigineering and am planning to transfer to a university in the US, I started at my current university in January 2013 (it does not have a session starting with fall semester).

I always wanted to study in the US and did apply to a couple of universities during my high school, but was greatly disappointed with the admission decisions, even though I have a really strong academic background. The reason for my rejection could possibly be my inability to fully fund my education in the US, since two of the colleges in my common app list notified me the reason for my rejection being my inability to provide sufficient funding for my studies at their university. If not, then my rejection could me accredited to my poor selection of colleges, no proper counseling or possibly my lackadaisical attitude towards the essays.

My current university was my backup plan, and though, it being a renowned university in the country, did not guarantee me the type of education experience, college life, extra-curricular activities, researches and internships opportunities etc. which i would have otherwise had, if i was lucky to get into a US college.

Further, I don't find any strong academic challenges here, maybe due to teachers not encouraging out of the box thinking and making students focus on the lectures only. However, my ability to have practical approach towards my studies keeps me at an upper edge,

Moreover, engineering studies are more effective when students are indulged in industrial visits related to the courses being taught, which would give the student a much better understanding of what the course is about, which at my current university is not encourage as a part of coursework. Also, no proper practical sessions related to coursework, no proper individual practical performances by students, due to lack of appropriate equipments, tools etc available, badly affects the curricula.

All this in my case of a Mechanical Engineer, hurts a lot.

Therefore, i need help in finalizing my university list (universities offering financial aid) and preparing my transfer application essay... I know I can't say anything negative about my current institute of education, so what might help me write a winning essay especially to some of the Ivy League universities.

Hoping to receive your best suggestions....

Thanks alot!

There’s virtually no financial aid for international transfers and most of those (a handful) will be transferring from within the US.
Since you started in January 2013, you already have 3 semesters’ worth of work. Add one more year and by the time you apply, you’ll be considered to have taken too many classes to transfer.
In short, your plan is not doable: you need to find either a program in the UK (but not many courses will still be open), or in another country in Europe. Germany will let you spend one year learning German before you start your studies, or France will have various programs too. In these two countries, tuition is more or less free.

In Germany, you’d be looking for FachHochSchule.

In France, you’d be looking for Grandes Ecoles, Ecoles d’Ingénieurs, I think INSA Lyon has a lot of international students.

Lots of friends from Pakistan, they all came to the US for Masters. Don’t worry about it.

Thanks alot everyone…
