Transferring to USC as an Out of State?

Hey guys,

So I've tried to do a lot of research on what kind of students get into USC, but despite USC being a relatively popular school on this forum, I can't find too much information on transferring from an out-of-state, 4 year university.

I'm currently attending Rutgers University New Brunswick in New Jersey as a sophomore and hope to transfer next year. I'm a Computer Science major and I currently have a 3.7 GPA with A's in a lot of upper level math electives and beginner-level programming courses, and relatively similar grades in my gen-eds. I think after this Fall semester, I should have a relatively similar GPA.

I have a 2200 SAT and good SAT2 scores as well, with some very unique work experience - my GPA was just crap in high school in my first two years, and I hope the fact that I've been able to maintain a high one in college should show I'm not that kind of person anymore.

Still, most of the posts of successful transfers here are people with 3.9-4.0 GPAs from California Community Colleges, and most of those are for the Arts and Sciences or business programs. I'm not sure how my credentials would stack up in this scenario, especially since I want to transfer to the Engineering School.

Does anybody have an idea of my chances?

From what I have seen, location is not considered in the acceptances. It’s just that more people in California apply to USC. If you have completed (or will complete in the spring) the transfer requirements then you have a good chance. I’m almost 2000 miles from USC and i’m applying for CS next fall…
