Transferring to USC, question about credits!?

So I'm a freshman and I'm planning to transfer to USC for Fall 2013 and my question is I know that they need 30 credits to base their decision off of your college work, so if I send in my application right now then send my second semester grades later will that still count towards the 30 credits?

Hey!! I am a transfer student at USC now (transferred in one year). If you have less than 30 units by the application deadline (feb 1st) then, it will be based on college work and SAT/ACT scores. So, no the second semester grades will not count until the end when they ask for Spring grades to finalize their decision. I had 23 units by the end of fall and winter semester at El Camino College. So they had to look at those grades, SAT scores and HS gpa.

If you don’t want them too look at HS record and SAT/ACT scores, then you can wait a year. If you don’t mid then do the first year transfer. Its a little tougher because they literally take ALL of it into consideration but you have a strong college GPA and have impeccable Spring grades, you will be fine.

do you even have to submit the hs transcript if you already have over 40 credits

Hey Shelby thanks for the response but can I just ask one thing just to clarify? So If i submit my application now, do they only look at my high school grades? I thought that if by the end of the first year you have more than 30 credits they only look at college grades. My high school grades and SAT’s were terrible and no where near USC standards but with my college grades it at least gives me a fighting chance. Basically since I have more than 30 credits when I finish the first year, can I still apply without them looking at my SAT’s or high school grades?

You need to have 30 credits by the application filing deadline (February 1st) in order for them to look t only college grades, even if you will have more than 30 by the end of spring. Most likely, in case for most first year transfers, USC will ask for spring grades to make a final decisions. They believe that anything under 30 units is not enough to give a decent overview of transfer potential.

If you have less than 30 by feb. 1st, they will consider HS record (SAT/ ACT and HS gpa) one key thing they are looking at is algebra 2 which is the bare minimum math for GE, unless your major requires more math

No you do not need to send HS transcript if you have over 40 units. But as I said earlier, algebra 2 from HS is the basic math requirement. Unless your major requires higher level math that satisfies that requirement, they may ask for it.
