Transferring to USC

the brochure said that the average GPA for transfers was a 3.7 but then the top 10 schools that send the most amount of kids to USC are all community colleges. would getting a slightly lower GPA at a large university like BU look better than a 3.7 from CCs.

I think that would depend largely on what your major is. For example, more transferring engineers are accepted with GPA's lower than 3.7. As well as a few of the other more difficult majors.

I heard that it really doesn't matter much your major and courses, just mainly your GPA.

Just a tip.....

Save the syllabi from all of your courses that you take until you transfer to USC..... will save you a lot of trouble later down the road

fyi, i am transferring in this fall with a GPA of 3.45 into CLAS, but had a lot of circumstances surrounding it and balancing a career with school, some extracurriculars, etc. honestly, they take a very holistic approach to admissions and look at the whole candidate.

Congratulations to all transfers who have been accepted to USC this year! I would appreciate it if you could share some thoughts and offer your observation or advice on how to improve the chance of getting accepted to USC. I want to apply for transfer in the coming year.

Although holistic, does USC admissions place a greater emphasis on academics or on other aspects of the application such as essays, recommendations or ECs?

Does USC transfer application require letters of recommendation? It seems to me that some students were accepted without submitting college faculty’s recommendations.

If the major that you want to transfer into is impacted, will that affect your chance of getting accepted?

How is USC’s financial aid for transfer students? Is there a large amount of loans in the finaid package? Are there any merit scholarships or grants?

Thank you very much for your help!

BlueLake, i would recommend you check out the following threads. they will definitely give answers to ALL of your questions, because honestly, every situation is unique and while USC gives basic "guidelines" to how they do things for transfers, there were so many different applicants this year with diverse backgrounds and whatnot that you really can't give an approximate answer. what i can tell you is that with financial aid, they have been wonderfully generous. many of my friends here on CC have gotten near-full or full rides for the fall, including grants and merit scholarships. good luck!
