Hi everyone.
I’m currently a CAP student at UT Arlington looking to transfer to UT for economics or management & finance in the fall. I am (and was ) aware that business students are told to take calculus 1 and 2 while doing the CAP program but the advisors told us to not risk it because calculus at UTA is very hard and to instead, focus on making the other CAP requirements so we can at least get into UT. In addition, I’m not very good at math (I would consider myself a bit above average) and the math department at UTA has bad reviews.
So, I took contemporary math the first semester (to satisfy the CAP transfer math requirement )and got an A. My high school was in Nigeria and did not offer calculus. We had something similar called “further mathematics” but as I wasn’t good at math, did not take it. Thus, I have no calculus foundation and UT will not count college algebra towards my GPA. I’m registered to take pre calc next semester (taking a risk by not having done college algebra) and looking to take calc 1 and 2 in a community college in houston over the summer (Is it possible to do both at the same time??). I know precalc does not satisfy the calc requirement and calc from the community college will not get added to my GPA but my advisor says at least it shows I’m making progress towards fulfilling the requirement and I can make it known to UT that I’m taking calculus over the summer.
My question is, does anyone know if they will accept this? I had a 4.0 GPA during the fall semester and am fulfilling all other college of business requirements. Is calculus transferable from a community college? How would I let them know I’m taking it at a community college? And does anyone think I have a good chance regardless? I’m for sure going to be able to transfer to one of the guaranteed courses but want to do business. I have good grades, extra curriculars etc. Finally, is anyone doing humanities at UT? It says I can streamline my major to sth business related and maybe minor in econ idk. What’s it like?
This is so long omg. If you read to the end and offer some help I will be so grateful.
