So I have been going to CC for 2 years, and will probably have to go for another year and end up with like 90 credits because I’ve just been experimenting with classes and figuring out what I like; CC isn’t that expensive so it seemed like a good idea.
I’m planning on transferring to UVA for physics in fall 2017, but the problem is I’ll only have enough classes to have 3 semesters of the physics degree done, but I think I’m expected to transfer as a junior because of all of my transfer credits.
I’m not really sure what I should do but I’m stressing. Am I going to be expected to get 2.5-3 years of physics done in 2 years just because of the amount of credits I already have even though they aren’t in major?
Are you at a CC that regularly sends people to UVA? If so, go meet with your advisor there, and find out about how the transfer process works. You also can communicate directly with the transfer admissions office at UVA.
UVA will decide which of your courses to accept for credit, and which ones to apply to your degree program. Then your advisor there will help you determine the best plan of studies. If you need three years to finish up, well then you won’t be the first CC transfer to have to do things that way! UVA will not require that you squeeze extra classes into your program just to finish in a certain amount of time.
If you are paying for your education with federal financial aid, it is possible that you will run out of Pell Grant eligibility if you are in school for too long. So if that is your situation, talk that over with the financial aid officer at your CC and start figuring out the most efficient way to complete your studies.
