Hey I'm currently a first year at Tufts University. I am from Northern Virginia and I got into UVA last year but opted for Tufts because I wanted to be far away from home. Now, I have sort of changed my mind and may be interested in transferring to UVA next year. I already saw the stats for getting into UVA as a transfer student, but I was wondering if I would have a greater than average chance of getting in. I mean I was already accepted last year, and I have a GPA of 4.0 in my first semester at Tufts. The only drawback is that I have yet to find clubs etc. that I am really interested in (which is a major reason I'm considering transferring to a bigger school), but I have started dancing again (which I did for 12 years, and ended 2 years ago), and I hope to be more involved in community service. What do you guys think my chances are of getting in?

Also, I may be interested in transferring to an ivy league (my dream has always been Harvard, and I was rejected off the waitlist last year). Do you guys think I have any chances at any ivies?

I'm not sure if you need high school stats too but I had well over a 4.0 GPA in high school (9 AP classes), had many ec activities including a lot of community service, and a 1430 on the SATs.

The thing I dislike most is that it's far from home. I thought that I would want to be really far away but I'm not so sure anymore. Though I'm still adjusting so maybe it's just gonna take me more time. I really like the location, but already I really don't think I'm going to be able to deal with the winter. Another thing I dislike is that I really don't feel like they offer much that I like to do in terms of extra curricular activities. I love to dance but I'm not so much into the hardcore groups that have really good performances and stuff. I'd rather take classes, of which not much is offered. I talked about it with my advisor and he said that of all the arts, dance is probably the least offered. While there exist opportunities for dance in the city, I think it would be hard and take a long time to go into the city 3 or 4 times a week using public transportation. Anyway, it seems like so many kids are really happy here so this is more of a personal thing....I would definitely consider myself an anomoly.

It's actually easier to transfer into UVa than it is to get in as a first-year, so if your grades at Tufts are great, then you shouldn't have a problem getting into UVa, especially as an in-state student.

Hey thanks for the honest response. I'm four hours away from home (NYU to Fairfax,VA) so i can relate to your pain but i think after the first semester or two you will find yourself needing less stuff to bring from home.

But UVA is a great school and so is Tufts. I think you're probably in at UVA since you're in state and you've been accepted already.

Well, Harvard Sqare is two T-stops away and so to get over the river into the city it's 3 T-stops. To get to the T-stop from campus, it's just a 10 minute walk into Davis Square, or you can take the free Tufts shuttle. Haha I guess now that I'm here i consider distance only in T-stops, but driving in a car it's really not that far, maybe 15 minutes?

Hey, fellow Northern Virginian (by the way Firstyear, i think we know one another. Well, let me put it this way, I knew only one person who got into Tufts from our school and was waitlisted at Harvard from our glorified Blue Ribbon high school. I'll give you a hint at who I am, I was the only guy in our SAT prep section.) and others

I am also applying to transfer to UVa but from JMU, and clearly, also from northern Virginia. I had a 3.5/3.6 in high school, 1300+ SAT and I did many (too many) ec's. I was president of two very active clubs in high school which consumed a lot of my time and effectually tended to bring my gpa down a bit. But, I always took the most difficult schedule available. I have been doing really well here, e.g., probably end the semester with a 4, was one of three auditioners to get into a highly competitive singing group (150 others auditioned also). I hope to get involved in the honors program here just to beef up the old resume for UVa (that rhymes, by the WAY!). SO what do yuo guys think. FirstYear, especially if you are the former schoolmate I'm thinking of, you will have no problem getting in--you're a shew-in. But as for me I'm not so sure. Let me know what you guys think.
