Transferring to UW Seattle && CSE Major

Basically, I am currently a student at UW Bothell, and I'm trying to transfer to UW Seattle, as well as get into the CSE Major. However, I have hit a bunch of snags in the road and I feel like I'm about to lose confidence in my ability to achieve my goals or continue on at all.

I already applied to UW Seattle via the Transfer Application. However, my GPA is only about a 3.1. I got a 3.7 in Math 124, but my professor in 125 was a complete ****** and gave half the class around a 2.0. I had to retake it, and I could only manage a 2.7 because it is harder for me to grasp the concepts of integrals. I also took CSE 142 at UW Seattle, but I only got a 2.6. I got full points on most of the assignments, but the tests were my weak point because I've never been a good test taker. The rest of my other classes were just things I took randomly at UW Bothell because during my first year, I was really unsure of what I wanted to do, so I just took classes to explore a little bit and find out. I am currently in my 2nd year, which is almost over, and the only prereqs for cse that I need to finish are CSE 143, and an approved science course.

Right now, I am currently taking CSE 143 in UW Seattle, and the midterm totally screwed my grade over and caused me to basically be depressed for a whole week. I realized that it would be hard for me to get a good grade by calculating my grade on grade calculator, and that I could never get higher than a 3.5. Above a 3.0 would require almost 100% on every assignment afterwards. The average for the class was around a 65, but I got almost 10-15% less than that. Because of this, I'm considering either dropping it, or turning it into a S/NS grading option, but I don't know which one is better.

So basically, I have two questions. What are my chances of getting admitted to UW Seattle for transfer based on the statistics I've listed above, and should I either drop, or change to S/NS my CSE 143 class?

Thanks.

I have no idea about transfer stats, but in my opinion it doesn’t look so hot for you. As far as dropping the class, I would only consider dropping it if you’re in danger of failing (<2.0?). Otherwise, just do S/NS. Think of it this way: S is better than W is (slightly) better than NS. The only thing is that if you do S/NS, you’ll still have to take the class, whereas if you drop it you might get better grades in your other classes (due to having one less class to worry about). You might want to consider talking to an adviser.

Realistically speaking, it would be extremely unlikely you’ll get into the CSE major with a 2.6 in 142 and under 3.5 for 143. If I were you I would continue 143 and do your best. Retake it next quarter and hope for a 4.0!
