Transferring to Virginia Tech from James Madison

I am a freshman currently. Last semester I got a 3.08 and took Foundations of Physics A, Chem 131 Lab B, Chem 131 C+, Calc 235 B, GISAT or Critical thinking A-. That was only 12 credit hours. Do they still look at my high school gpa as a factor of getting in? Same with SATs? What is my chance? Also I applied to the Air Force ROTC program there.

Since you only have one semester's worth of college work, your high school record and SAT/ACT scores will be weighed heavily in the decision. If you don't think it's strong enough, you may need to apply again next year, when you have a better academic record. Your GPA isn't very high, however, you took what appear to be very demanding courses, and that will help.

If you had strong high school performance, I think you'll stand a reasonable chance. If not, you may need another year's worth to boost your chances.

Well my high school GPA Was 3.4 with a 23 on the ACT. I took lots of AP classes.

Are test scores and high school transcripts required of transfer students?

Only a copy of the high school transcript is required for admission to determine whether a student meets the foreign language requirement.

So that means they will not look at my high school grades then to base their decision on?

No...that statement only applies to folks who will have taken 2 years of courses till the time of transferring and have taken at least a year at the time of applying.

Your high school grades will weigh a lot more than your college grades.

Just called them and they said that they will not use the high school transcript as a decision factor same with SAT scores. She never said that it only applies to kids who are removed from high school for two years

You are from California. I am talking about Vrigina Tech and Virgina State schools. We have different rules here than in California!!!!

Virgina Tech only uses it as a way to see you meet their foreign language requirement!!1
