Transferring to Williams

I was rejected regular app this year, and I am looking into transferring from Skidmore College next year. I haven't heard anyone mention anything about this from what I've read, but it can't hurt to ask - has anyone had any experience with this, or just some good advice? I already went to their website and read all of the info there, but I was just wondering if anyone had any further details. I know my chances of getting in are quite low, and that the essay is going to be an integral part of the application (I am going to devote a considerable amount of time to it this summer, with the help of a GC).

Williams was, and still is, my dream school, which is why I feel I have nothing to lose in giving it a second shot. But nevertheless, I plan to work harder than I ever have before at college this year, and make the best of things. :)

Are you from the Berkshires??? That should be a huge plus!!!!

Yes I am...hopefully that will help.

Do keep in mind that they accept very few transfers, the majority of whom are graduates of two-year colleges.

Why do you want to transfer anyway? Skidmore is a great place. I think you should give it a fair shake.

^^ I plan on making the best of things next year, of course. But I see no harm in trying to transfer, because of how much I really do love Williams...I know the chances are slim, but its worth a try.

I agree with MikeyD223. I think you will find Skidmore to be a wonderful school, if you give it a shot.

I know that. But that doesn't change the fact that I will be attempting to transfer, and would like some advice.

Sigh...
Things like this make me sad. How people want what they don't have and refuse to be happy with what they do...
If you were a current skidmore student who hated it, then i'd understand...
But you know what you have to do and achieve to be elligible to transfer. Everyone says that chances posts for the top colleges are crapshoots since sometimes people with the best stats get rejected, if transfers are even harder then how will it make a difference what people say?
Go to their site see what they say, you know how much lower your chances are for getting in transfer, so just do what you can i guess. I really don't know what to say to post like this...

Well, I'm sorry that you felt you even had to reply then. I SAID that I had read the information thoroughly on their website, but was hoping for any additional insight or info. Don't waste your time or mine.

And don't presume that you know all the details behind my reasoning for wanting this transfer, because you don't. It could be a lot more legitimate than you know or understand.

I asked a reason and none was presented.
I never presumed a reason, reread (or read) my words, I said IF aka not definite.

As far as going to help you, have you tried calling the college?
I know UChicago will recommend students to pursue study in certain classes within their major so the credits can transfer over.

Sorry for not being 'understanding' but you never posted a reason when asked so I assumed nothing. If you want to say something but don't want it to be thrown on the board, then just PM me.

Calling the college and asking about transfers is a good starting point though since I saw students on the UChicago blog asking the adcoms what courses they should take because they knew they were going to apply as transfers in the next year anyway.

In all sincerity, good luck. You know the numbers, now throw them out the window. Some do succeed and if you play your cards right, then you can too!

^ Thank you so much. Honestly, I haven't even thought of giving the college a call... I'm sorry if I sounded a bit less than friendly in my last post. That's why I started this topic, because I knew there would be something that I would completely forget or overlook. Calling would definitely be an excellent idea.

And I just might PM you.

Not a problem, it happens :-)
Yeah, feel free to PM me after you've talked to Williams and let me know what they say.

Hi,
I am interested into transferring to Williams College. My story, I screwed up my junior and senior year to where I didn’t even graduate. I ended up not finishing my American Lit Honors and Geometry Honors course. Even though I didn’t graduate, I still took rigorous AP courses throughout high school, I just lost motivation due to some family issues. ANY WAYS moving on from that, I took a year and a half off and I’m now attending the College of Southern Nevada, in which I’ve excelled thus far. As of yet I do not have any extra curricular activities, but I was very much involved in High School, such as Key Club, French Club, etc. I was president of my Key Club in high school, but my high school record is abominable that I don’t think it would be wise to even put into my profile. Oh, and my SAT and ACT scores were pretty much crap. The questions I am asking are, What do I need to do as of now to get into Williams? and Should I retake my SAT and ACT? Should I even put my High School stuff on my profile? I am currently finishing my first semester of college, and I have straight As. I’ve also taken two courses over summer prior to fall. ( PLEASE BE INFORMATIVE AND GIVE ME IN DEPTH AND DETAILED ADVICE ) I’d appreciate it. THANKS SO MUCH!
