I am currently a freshman at a private university. I am struggling academically and socially (the people here have an elitist attitude). If I finish my freshman year, can I go to community college or a small college near my home for my sophomore year, and still be able to transfer to a decent state school the following year? Do colleges look down upon people who transfer twice and/or attend community college after leaving their first university?

Don’t finish out your freshman year if you’re currently failing your classes. It will do more harm than good. I’ve been there. I know. Unless you think you’re going to make a dramatic transformation in the next month and make a 4.0 during spring semester you’re better off registering at a CC for spring.

Agreed. And some universities look down upon transferring twice, others don’t. Usually, it’s not a problem as long as you include in your essay why you transferred.
