Transferring Twice?

I'm currently a freshman at Georgetown University, in Georgetown College. However, I've decided that I want to pursue a degree in public/international health. So, I'm transferring into the School of Nursing in Health Studies to get a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies, concentrating in international health. It's EXACTLY what I want to do, as I'm thinking about doing an MD/MPH dual degree after undergrad. This was the first undergrad international health program in the country, and is probably the most established. We also get to do an "international health practical experience abroad w/ research" fall semester senior year. We also have internships w/ various NGOs/community/international organizations located in the DC area. I really love the program.

However, I also am specifically interested in public health as it relates to Africa. At Penn, I know that there's a Health and Society major in the College, and you can concentrate in Health in Africa. Penn also has more African language courses than Georgetown(we only have a semester of Swahili while Penn has more than one language for the full year(my friend at Wharton is taking Yoruba)). Penn also has more resources than Georgetown in the sciences, and I love the campus and Philly(Center City, sigh).

Would it make sense or hurt my chances if i already did an intra-University transfer, then apply for transfer to the University of Pennsylvania? I know that the Int'l Health major in NHS would definitely satisfy me, but I also might want to focus specifically on health in africa, and I definitely am more interested in learning an African language than a European language. There are many other reasons as well. I guess I'm confused yet again, lol, and would greatly appreciate any advice/thoughts. Also, would the int'l health major help in admissions to the health and society major, since I'll be completing similar courses? Thanks again.

i think that's completely reasonable, i dont think you should count an internal transfer as the same. you'll be fine, in my opinion.

thanks for your thoughts. I really hope that "mirroring" the program at Penn will help me next year. I'm not 100% sure I'd transfer, but at least I'd know I have the option if I got in.

Hey there Jason. :) Hehe, maybe we'll be classmates! At Georgetown that is..I'm HOPING to transfer into the school of nursing. I'm going for my RN though, but REALLY considering a minor or at least certificate in International Health..I'll cross that bridge when it gets here though. Did I mention how I REALLY HOPE that I get in. ;)
Anyway, I guess that if you're even considering transferring to Penn, start taking languages if you haven't already! You'll have to take a proficiency test before graduating for their health/nursing program. Fun. That's one of the main reasons I didn't apply. Foreign languages and me..wellll..we just don't mix too well!
Best of luck to you, in whatever you decide! :D

ah yes, foreign language. Kind of why i'm transferring into NHS(partly, lol) b/c there isn't a foreign language requirement.

I wouldn't be in Penn Nursing if I apply. I'd do Health and Society in the College. Or is there some other health program in Nursing that I don't know about?

Maybe we'll be in into to international health! Of course, if i get off the waitlist, sigh. 5 people are already waitlisting the class.

Good luck!

Haha..Wellll if YOU can't get into the intro to international health class, than I DOUBT I will. Eh..That's ok, just so long as I can get into the ones I need for my major, (provided I get in), I won't complain, too much. ;)

Oh, ok..I guess maybe there isn't a foreign language requirement for the college, I'm not positive but I think some of the other schools have FL reqs, Wharton maybe, but..Not too sure. In fact, in lieu of finals, I really don't know much at all right now!
