i am a biochem/cell & molecular bio major.

i have a 3.1 GPA according to my TAG. That is the "ASSIST Certified Courses".

i would like to transfer to UC Davis x UC Riverside or UCSD, maybe a few more.

What i have did is the GENERAL EDUCATION pattern. I have attended just CCC but never taken a foriegn language, and really don't plan on it. Do I have to? I met with my counselor not to long ago, and he actually is the one who suggested this whole TAG process to me, prior to which, i was going to just apply to SF State.

i am however going to do a FEW lower division science courses and math courses such as pre calculus and calculus 1.

my question is, how are my stats? I have 48 units, and will probably have my full 60 after this spring semester. I will be apply for Fall 2012, and my other question is, do I NEED to do all the lower division at my CCC before I transfer? do I absolutely need to take a language because if I do, i might have to rethink UC transferring.

Thanks.

yay!!!Finally a science major.Anyways,as of my knowledge I have not heard strictly that you have to finish all the pre-requisites prior to transfer.However,you do need to finish as much of the pre-requisites as you can and have a 3.0 GPA or above to TAG for most UCs that participate in the TAG program.However, UCSB has changed their TAG program for several majors.check this link out:

As for TAG for UCR,they were a little strange and my counselor confused me so I didn’t TAG,so I can’t give you too much information on them(I TAG at 5 UCs and got approved by Davis and Santa Cruz).I do say,though, that since you are more focused in biology, applying at UCSD and Davis is going to be hard since it is quite an impacted major so I suggest raising your GPA.As for foreign language,I say take one just to make sure you have a foreign language.I am having this same problem too,although I have an AP Spanish language done so I hope it counts.

As for your stats,I say they’re okay;just raise your grades to better your chances for admission.Good Luck!

UCSD TAG requires IGETC but Davis and Riverside do not.

Ok, some people on here are wrong. IGETC is required for ALL UC’s. That is the point of following the IGETC. Also, for 2012 your GPA must be at least a 3.2 (UCD) in order to qualify for TAG. Higher for some majors. a foreign language is usually required with IGETC too…

I did TAG for Davis and they accepted it for fall.

@Skeptic51

IGETC is NOT required for all UCs and some majors and schools discourage completion of IGETC.

“Completion of IGETC or UC Reciprocity is not required/encouraged for entrance to these majors.”

Nothing about IGETC being required. Baskin SOE recommends avoiding IGETC for their majors.

http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/tag/criteria/F12TAG_flier.pdf
Again, nothing about IGETC.

Where did you hear/read that ALL UC’s require completion of IGETC? Just curious, because that’s incorrect. Only UCSD requires IGETC to sign a TAG.

Your chances at UCSD are slim. SD has one of the top Biology departments in the UC system, comparable with Berkeley and UCLA (many consider it better than UCLA) and you have to finish a majority of the pre-reqs Gen Bio, Gen Chem, 3 semesters of Calc-based Physics, 3 semesters of Calculus, and Ochem (recommended) and have a high GPA (3.6+) to be competitive for admission. Furthermore, you can’t TAG to any of the Biology majors because they’re very heavily impacted (they set a combined target for 200 enrollees per year for the entire Bio department starting 2011). You could apply as a Biochem major through the Chem department, but you’d still have to up your GPA around a 3.5 and finish IGETC which requires an equivalent of 2 years of a high school foreign language.

Davis you could TAG but you have to finish Gen Bio and Gen Chem first and have your Math requirements completed all with a grade of B or better by Fall 2012. You also need to raise your GPA above a 3.2 by Fall 2012 to meet their new TAG requirements that year.

You should have a decent chance with UCR.

Talking about raising the thread from the dead

Op has been inactive since last year

Oh, wat. I just noticed that this was a dead thread.

Bad Skeptic51! Why you necromancin’?

@asphyxiac

Ok, bad choice of words. You are CORRECT! It is not “required/encouraged” but this is simply because for some majors (UCLA and CAL) you may need the IGETC and more. Assist.org will help the most but look at that site and the IGETC. The IGETC is very clear about what it does not cover and what you should do to find the information for those specific majors. The main point is that you can’t TAG to Davis for any major with a 3.1 and if you haven’t finished all pre-requisites you aren’t going to have a good chance of transferring anyway. However, you are right and I am wrong.

HA! I am a necromaniac

You and your necrophilia

Ew, gahhhhrosss.

Lol, @Skeptic51 - sorry if I sounded super aggressive in my post! I didn’t intend to be all “I’m right, you’re wrong, neenerneener!”, though it certainly came out that way.

…sometimes I get kinda trigger happy. :/

No worries! I only joined because I saw how much fun everyone else seems to have proving each other wrong. you win this time. The best part is that I thought this was a recent post.
