I have two questions about Scripps.

One, I am considering transferring there from a community college in Connecticut. Has anyone gone through their transfer process? Can you tell me a bit about it?

Second, I am probably not going to be able to visit due to finances. I am a definite New Englander and am nervous about living in Southern California (I hate the sun and love the snow, if that gives you an idea). How have others dealt with that transition? Is not visiting a bad idea, or can you survive without it?

I suggest visiting if you can. I didn't think that I was a winter/snow person until I got to southern California and absolutely hated the weather--6 cloudy days in the entire semester! The pollution also had something to do with this--there is so much junk in the air, when it rains, it smells like a wet dog (yuck).

Apart from that, Scripps has the most beautiful campus I've ever seen. Orange trees, fountains, Spanish architecture...
It might help to know where you are transferring from.

I have quite a few East-Coast friends at Scripps who love being able to sit out in the sun in the middle of February, but I admit it does take some getting used to. I am from Seattle and am used to rain and overcast skies, and it was sunny almost the whole year (and rained maybe twice - light rain.) If you hate the sun, don't lay out in it in your swim suit - but I wouldn't let the weather deter you from going to Scripps. I think visiting is really important, but if you don't have the means, then what can you do, you know?
