Transferring w/o TAP

I really am just wondering if I am totally screwed in regards to transferring if I have not signed a TAP. I am going to be applying to UCLA for Fall 2009 and I will be going into it with a 3.7, Sociology major. I would really like to know my chances of being admitted.

Also, when I apply in Novemer I will have about a 3.57 but after this coming Fall semester I should have a 3.7. Will they not make a decision until after they receive my Fall grades or will they already kind of know yes/no this person will/won't be admitted? I know that you don't get a decision until after you submit the Fall grades but I am just wondering how impacting they can be on their overall decision.

Here is some info. on my GPA and EC's.

GPA: 3.57/3.7 after Fall
School: UCLA
Major: Sociology, I was thinking about doing Women's Studies only because it is not impacted but Sociology is my number 1 and that is what I would really like to know what my chances would be for.
EC's: Working part time at an attorneys office (I plan on going to law school), playing softball, community service (at least 30 hours a month)

What more could I do to improve my overall chances?

Thaks so much in advance for any responses!!

just make sure you do every requirement on assist.org. tap helps but its not decision breaking

I'm in a different field so my experience may be only partially relevant, but I didn't sign a TAP (in fact I only vaguely know what that is). At my school there was a huge bank of flyers for all the different majors, and each one lists all the requirements, and which courses satisfy them.

The one thing I keep telling everyone is work on writing essays, because no matter what field of study you want to pursue, you're still going to have to submit some kind of essay as part of your application, and this is typically the area where you can get the most bang for your buck in terms of the amount of room there is for improvement.

Putting in time in a tutoring lab or similar is not as glamorous as a lot of other things like internships or what have you, but good essay writing is a great, solid skill for almost any discipline.

Complete the pre-reqs for your major offered at your CC, and write a bad ass essay.

I didn't have TAP and made it in.

Thanks for the advice. I actually only have 1 more class to take before all my pre-req's are finished and I already am done with my IGETC after this coming Fall. I am also a really good writer so hopefully that will help me overall as well.

Have you checked what the average GPA of admitted sociology students is for fall 2008? Odds are you are above the average GPA so you should be fine. I know plenty of people who got into impacted majors without TAP. Also, they do not even look at your application until well after you have submitted your fall grades so don't sweat it. Just keep up your GPA and you should be ok. :)

Thanks KitKat42008 I appreciate the info. The average GPA for 2008 was a 3.61 so I think I will be fine after my Fall grades are submitted. I just wanted to make sure that they wouldn't make a decision until they received them.

I second Edward's response; make sure to get your pre-req's done ASAP. Honestly, I wouldn't be too worried about your GPA; I got into Soc with a GPA below a 3, so you should be fine with your 3.5+ gpa.

Oh yes, and I didn't do tap, obviously.

Below a 3?

Must've had a kickass essay or something...

Yeah that is a pretty amazing feet getting into UCLA like that.

will a 3.62 gpa with TAP and EC's have a chance at UCLA for International development Studies?

Or for anyone that knows PEIS or EEP at Cal?

Thanks

haha, amazing feet. I'm just picturing these golden feet, embodying absolute perfection as far as feet go. hahaha.

*******feat

bump......

dude...that's fxxking amazing

As long as you continue to maintain a GPA higher than last year's average GPA admittance (major), you will be a very strong candidate.

okay,great, thanks so much

I need my chances pleeassee

People here already told you what you need to know; as long as your GPA is above the admitted average you will be a competitive candidate but that's about it. If you're waiting for someone to tell you that you're a shoe-in then it's not really gonna happen unless you don't wanna hear the truth since UCLA can be very unpredictable in their admissions.

how’s life sweetnezz these were your beginning thread responses and now your only a few weeks away from finding out if UCLA will accept you or not. quite amazing
