Hello, all.
I've been trying to find the answer to my question but I am still confused - I'm guessing that a sophomore transfer means you apply in your freshman year, and a junior transfer means you apply in your sophomore year, and thus start your next school year at your new school.
However, I'll be starting my junior year in the fall at a fairly well-known large state university, and although I thought about transferring before last year, I had trouble with recommendations and friends convincing me not to leave...and I put it off until it was too late.
But the transfer-bug has bitten into me again (large classes, not happy with the city I'm in, looking for challenges etc.) and basically my question is:

Is it possible to transfer during my junior year? I'm looking at Spring '09 or Fall '09 transfers, and I really don't mind spending another year in college (60 hour credit, I know). Would the admissions people frown on this? Help, please!

Some colleges have a max credit amount, others don't. It varies by college, so you'd have to check the individual college's requirements.

I transferred to Fordham with 65 credits, so I can't imagine too many schools penalizing for credit amount - though some might. As I said, you need to check with the individual college.

A lot of colleges are still accepting Fall 2008 transfers, so you don't necessarily have to wait until next year.

i think it is possible. just make sure that the college you are looking into transfer does not have a cap on how many credits you can have..not necessary to transfer but just the overall amount. and most likely any school that you are accepted into will request that you attend an extra year because most have a 2 year resident policy, where you have to be at the school for at least 2 academic years.

but are you really that unhappy with your current school, because you were convinced to stay last year? and plus you are soo close to finishing. if you don't mind waiting, i would just finish with your undergrad where you are and then just go to the grad school of your choice. but if you do not plan to go to grad school, then you should transfer now.

thanks for both replies :) I just looked at websites and figured out which schools I could still try for.
well basically why i'm trying to transfer is I only applied for reaches (think HYPS & etc.) during HS and only got into my safety school, even though a lot of people told me I was qualified enough to get in. I did think I could give those another try, as well as some better matches and maybe some lower-tier schools.....but the main reason I did not transfer was because I had a bf, I thought he was the love of my life and I didn't want to leave him.
Time passed and we broke up. I am still open to grad school, but I just thought I might give it another chance. I don't mind spending another year in college. If it doesn't work out, I'll still have grad school apps to look forward to. (groan)
