I’m really interested in transferring to a UC / CSU, particularly SJSU as an info systems major and, I understand that it’s pretty difficult to do as an out of state student. The only thing is, of the golden four requirements, I don’t have the “oral communication” course completed because the university I’m at doesn’t require us to take any communications classes.
Would it be possible that I get it waived or complete the course over the summer / at the institution I transfer to?
For the record, I have 70+ credits completed at a well known university, am above the min GPA for out of state, and have completed the recommended courses for transferring into a specific major, so would I have any chance at acceptance?
It’s SJSU’s requirements that you have to meet, otherwise you do not fulfill the requirements to transfer to any CSU. UCs don’t require an oral communications GE course unless it’s a prereq toward a major.
You cannot get it waived and they will not accept you without it. Summer is too late.
The CSU won’t waive a requirement because your current university doesn’t require it.
That’s just ludicrous to assume that a school will just say, “okay, for you, you don’t have to abide by our requirements”.
You’re trying to get IN to a California university, so you have to meet this university’s requirements.
The UCs and the CSUs are funded by California taxpayers; priority goes to the children of those taxpayers.
Transfer priority goes to California community college students first.
Then UC to UC or CSU to CSU.
Then OOS.
As an OOS transfer, you will pay full fees. You are not eligible to receive California financial aid, nor will you gain instate residency. So, be prepared to pay a minimum of $32k per year.
