Transferring with a dismissal?

Hey all,

I was dismissed from a California community college for poor grades. I got my act together and enrolled in a second college and am doing great.

I was hoping to apply to transfer in Fall 2017 for admission to Fall 2018, however it turns out my first college wont let me back until Fall 2017. I have a super low gpa there something like a 1.1. My question is, can I still apply in the fall, or do I need to wait till I get out of the 1.0 gpa range with college 1?

I have a 3.8 gpa at the second college and all my transferable IGETC/major classes were taken at the second. The first college was mainly just entry level (non transferable). Four of the classes do transfer but have nothing to do with my major. I’m hoping to retake two and do academic renewal for the other two.

I’ll be done with all my IGETC and major classes by Fall 2017 which is why I want to transfer then so badly.

I know university’s don’t review applications until the end of the Fall term, and I am 100% positive I’ll be out of the 1.0 range at college 1 by then because of academic renewal and retaking classes.

Any advice is appreciated.

Congrats on your turnaround. Your full transcript will be considered - if you have re-taken the same course, some of you failing grades may be replaced. I’d suggest you make an appointment with an admissions counselor at your target UC, bring your transcript and see what they suggest as your most direct path to a UC.

Good luck.
