So basically I transferred into UMass Amherst from a CC the spring of my freshman year with a 2.9 gpa, only to then end up with a 2.3 gpa after my first two semesters there. I had chosen the wrong major and was also going through a lot of personal troubles. My grades are all A’s and one B in the liberal arts classes, which is where I’ve changed into, but then my gpa is dead because I did extremely terrible in the math and science areas and got a lot of C-‘s and even 2 F’s, though I’m retaking one of those now. It really stresses me out and I’m looking to transfer to a smaller college like Wellesley or Trinity. Do you think there is any chance I get in to schools like these with such a low gpa if I had good mid semester grades?
With quick research from the College Board, I have found.
- Trinity’s minimum college GPA for transfer is a 3.0 (which you are under)
- Wellesley has a 4% acceptance rate for transfer in 2016
Sorry to break the news but these choices are quite unrealistic. I would stick it out at Amherst because I don’t see any chance for you to “move up” at this point.
You have the opportunity, where you are now, of taking classes at Mount Holyoke, Smith, Amherst and Hampshire - all I’d do that first, it’s right there for you.
I don’t think you have a chance to transfer into those schools with under a 3.0, And at least as far as I know there are no official mid-semester grades in college. Focus on getting your grades up and if you want a smaller school I would look at some less selective LACs. If you are not full pay then consider the affordability of schools you are looking at as well.
I agree with other the other users.
From what I’ve read in your post, transferring again may not be the answer. Personal issues and wrong major choice probably wouldn’t be resolved by transferring. Besides, now that you’ve actually gone through a major switch, it seems you are doing quite well. Therefore, I’d stick it out at Amherst.
With this in mind, if you still decide to transfer, I’d go with @happy1’s suggestion. Look at some small, less selective LAC’s in your state.
@screenname55 No. I like to be perfectly honest, and I don’t think you had a shot at those schools before or after your most recent transfer (especially not Wellesley). I would stick it out and improve your grades.
