I used to go to NYU from 2012-2014 and had to leave due to academic dismissal (1.8 gpa)
During my 1.5 “gap” year (or year of not going to school), I interned at a non-profit organization that helped spread awareness for HIV prevention methods and tested participants in clinical trials in the hopes of finding a vaccine that would help HIV positive patients. I also worked as a medical assistant at a physician’s office during that time.
Now I’m ready to graduate a CC! Currently standing at 3.9 gpa without my spring semester grades but I’m confident that my gpa will remain 3.9. I am also part of PTK honor society and am working part-time at a dental office.
I’m doing so much better now but I’m still worried about my NYU experience. Also I don’t know how to explain it in my transfer essay without shedding so much negative light on it…Please help!!
**I was an early childhood education major at NYU but now I’m a biology major at CC.
Well, where are you trying to transfer to? Are you looking to transfer to a school similar to NYU, a more selective school, a state school, etc.?
@thetransfercoach I’m looking at similar schools like BU, Northeastern, USC, Villanova, U Pitt, U of Washington Seattle. But I am also applying to other safeties and reaches.
You should be able to get into all of those fairly easily, with the exception of USC. I would write an addendum explaining what happened your first time around as well.
@transfercoach do you think you can look over my personal essay and see if it is ok? I know i already sent it in but I just want some feedback for other schools as well. I did sort of mention about my time at NYU but idk. please let me know if you are willing to!
@thetransfercoach I did mention about my downfall in my personal statement but not too much. Do you think you can read over my personal statement to see if it is ok? I know I already submitted it to USC but I just want some feedback as well since I need to send it again to other schools. Please let me know if you are willing!
I’m on this board to be share as much free (public) information as possible in hopes of helping a wider range of transfer applicants, so if you have any questions for the general message board, I’d be glad to answer. Thanks!
