transferring with bad highschool grades

So I'm a senior in highschool right now and I'm about to graduate with around a 1.8gpa. How can I transfer out of community college without my highschool grades being in the picture? My whole life I never took school seriously until junior year when I realized what I'd done, but it was too late to bring it up. My local community college doesn't have my major and I really just want to get out of this town as quickly as possible. What are my options?

The main things you want to do in CC are to:

Bring up your grades to show 4yr schools that you have changed and are ready for college.

Take general education classes that are required for almost all schools for almost all majors (writing, math, etc.)

The fact that your local CC doesn’t have the major you are currently interested in is not a problem. While you may want to get out of town, your best choice now is to stay at home to reduce costs and attend your local CC for two years.

What major are you interested in?

When you speak with the counselors at the CC, ask about the colleges and universities that they have articulation agreements with. It may be possible for you to complete your first two years at the CC and be guaranteed transfer into the major that you want somewhere.

happymom is right, go straight to a CC counselor and explain your goals and let them direct you. AND if you don’t feel they’re a right fit meet with someone else. If you’re not ready to declare your major at least shoot for the basic GE requirements. Your HS GPA will fade if you apply yourself at CC. If I were you I’d find a good CC that fits my major and do everything possible to find work and a living space that’s doable then go for it. That’s what I did.

You’ve done well to realize your path at such an early age. I went to CC ‘late’ (21) by normal standards and I was worried about what that meant and how old I’d be once I graduated, but my dad told me, “you’ll eventually turn 30 with or without a BA… what matters is how you spend that time” and I’ve never forgotten his words. Just believe that you can do anything:) who’s to say…
