I'm currently confused about transferring to another campus in the future. Yes, I know I should seek a counselor's help, but right now I do not have the opportunity to do so.

I skipped my Senior year of high school by passing the CHSPE and I am now taking two classes (6 semester units) at a California community college. I have also passed my AP Language Test with a score of 5 (presumably 3 more units). I am planning on completing the IGETC, which my counselor told me to do so.

So my question is, after I complete the IGETC, what happens after? Can I transfer? What should be my plan if I want to transfer within 2 years?

I am planning to transfer to UCI or CSULB as an English Major.
I know that I am still a long way from completing the certification, but I still need some clarification if possible.

The IGETC is a guideline to follow to best assure your transfer to a UC/CSU school. The best advice I can give you is to get all the English/math out of the way first, since you’ll need to have that done by spring before you file your app. Then just work on getting everything else taken care of.

My real concern is that the IGETC only requires 34 semester units, but I am reading that you need 60 units to transfer. So IGETC completion is useless without additional classes?

At the time you apply, which is the fall before your plan to enroll, you need to have 30 units completed. By the following spring/summer, you’ll need to have a minimum of 60 units completed for your transfer. Also, those units have to be in UC-transferable courses. So yes, in order to transfer you’ll need 60 units minimum (maximum of 90.)

@Random: Your IGETC certification is completed by your records office at your CCC. You need to have all the coursework done, meet with a counselor who will check off that you’ve completed IGETC and then you take that approval form (or maybe the counselor will do it for you at your CC) to your records office and they’ll put it on your transcript.

Have what done by? The coursework necessary or the actual IGETC sheet verified by your counselor?

The former needs to be done by either spring or summer (I believe it’s spring, but could be wrong.) The actual verification doesn’t need to be done until sometime in July when you send off your transcripts after you’ve accepted the offer of admission.

I am apply for UC’s for next fall I have almost completed IGETC except for MATH and ENGLISH I plan to take English this winter quarter but not math because it i already full can I still get accepted if i finish my math by this spring before I transfer? how does it work? Will i not get accepted because I have not finished math before spring?

@madp007: If you don’t finish math/English this fall, you’ll be invalid for TAG in fall of 2011. However, you can still apply as a normal UC transfer.
