Transferring with Undesired Transcript

I started higher education at a 4 year university before deciding it was too much of a jump from high school. This college is on the quarter system which also interfered with a music program I wished to allocate more time to. So I decided to head back to a local college after only 4 quarters.

After returning I picked up a job and continued with the music program. This lasted almost three years more until I could not do it anymore. During this time I tried different classes (of a diverse selection) to provoke my interest in a possible major. If I did not enjoy what I was learning I stopped the class and picked up a set of different ones the following quarter, sometimes taking three classes at a time, sometimes two. In that time period I racked up 7 withdrawals and 1 failing grade unknowing of what they meant in the college transfer process. When I eventually chose my major (engineering) I started taking courses and enjoying them, devoting more time and learning.

I was a stupid kid then and as I approach my mid twenties I really understand and value my education and the time I need to devote to it more (this really wasn’t something my younger self understood). I understand what I did was wrong and I am afraid as I continue to take courses to transfer out in a year and a half that I will be at a dead end because my younger self could not get my head on straight.

My counselor suggests I just keep taking classes for my major and need not to worry. However, as I am pursuing these credits to transfer, I am looking for similar stories (that of which I am having a difficult time finding on the Internet) or undeniable clarification on how these withdrawals will look on my transcript. Even if I cannot do anything about it, I really want to know.

I am really at a loss and feel like I am in unknown territory. Your assistance would be very much appreciated.
