Transferring with W's?

Hey guys this is my first time posting on here,
So I’m taking a required math class in CC but recently my GPA dropped to 2.8 I have 3 W’s and I’m doing so bad in this math class. Should I drop the class and get a 4th W or should I stay and get a D or worse then retake it? I’m stressing on if I should stay and get a bad grade then retake it will my bad grade show on transcripts when transferring? or would it be worse to add a 4th W?
Please help guys thanks :x

This is an extremely tough decision. W’s are not something that you want on your transcript especially 3. Having said that it looks bad to get a poor grade. What UC are you hoping to get into? Also what is your major?

I’m from Los Angeles so any UC’s in the area like UCLA, USC, etc. My major is business, I’ve heard it’s competitive for transferring so if I’d have to I’d change it to anything similar to help.

Yeah, I got one W while in community college and was still accepted to all the UCs. To get into a UC your going to have to bring up your GPA especially for your major. If you think you are going to absolutely fail the class I would take the W. However, if you do withdraw make sure to do extremely well in your other classes.

You will not get into UCLA with a GPA around a 2.8. UCR and UCI have good business programs.

W’s are irrelevant for transferring. If you’re going to do badly in the class, then drop it.
W’s look bad for graduate schools - but even so, the difference between 3 W’s and 4 W’s is negligible. It’s far better to have 4 W’s than 3 W’s and an F.

See if your college has academic renewal to remove any low grades that you may have received in the past. Also, note that your GPA is only calculated out of UC-transferable courses (for the UC’s, at least) - an F in a non-transferable course will have no impact on your GPA.

I know still raising my GPA, as for this class I’m planning to just drop it, over 90% of the class is failing and it’s a required mathematics class I think it is UC-transfer.
If I do get an F or D will it be replaced once I retake the course with a better grade or still show? I’ve never retaken classes
Thank you for the info very helpful.

It depends. Academic renewal allows you to completely remove failed grades, but not all schools offer it.
You can retake a class in which you got a D or F, and then the higher grade will replace the lower grade when your GPA is calculated. You need to talk to your counselor if you do decide to do this, though, to get the complete run down for how this all works. And if you do talk to a counselor, ASK THEM ABOUT ACADEMIC RENEWAL. I don’t know if it can be used for C’s - but ask them about it anyway, it may help increase your GPA immensely.

Get a W over a D.
