Is it common for students to transfer between schools (SESP and Weinberg, whatever...)?

I'm interested in Social Policy now, but if I change my mind down the road, will I be restricted to the majors my "school" offers? I'd like to pursue a minor in Middle Eastern studies, but I was admitted in SESP, and Weinberg is the division that offers it.

before i applied to Medill, i asked an admissons officer at an info session about transferring from communcation to Medill (i was between deciding on film/media studies or journalism as my major) and she suggested that i apply to Medill because of how difficult it can be to transfer. She told me that for medill, they only take transfers when someone transfer out of Medill, and that last year tey were able to switch a only a few people. 2-5, i forgot what she said. But its the impossilbe, i guess it depends on the room avalible for Medill.

Hey Megan!!
From the Northwestern Web site:
"...nearly a third of our students will graduate from a different Northwestern school than they applied to, giving students a great deal of academic flexibility."

Megan, I transferred into SESP from Weinberg. The InterSchool Transfer Process is not difficult at all. I would say transferring from Weinberg into Music, Medill or Engineering would be more challenging. If you have any more questions, just give me a ring.
